Page 3 Introduction Throughout the process of industrialization and modernization, science and technology always play a critically important part to our country. Understanding the role of juveniles in research and creativeness activities, the Communist Youth Union consistently place special emphasis on developing movements, organizing various scientific activities as well as playgrounds for youth creativeness in order to promote the creative ability of the youth. Center for youth science and technology development was established on 12th August 1998 according to Decision No.4180/Q-UB-CN. The center, a public service delivery unit of Ho Chi Minh city Group, organizes its activities under the direction and guidance of the Standing Committee of City Group:
1. Organizing creativeness and scientific research activities for pupils, students, teenagers,

lecturers and young scientific intellectuals. 2. Cooperating with both domestic and overseas organizations to support, apply science and technology projects to production and everyday life.

3. Discover, gather, select and cultivate young talents in scientific and technological

inventions. Running programmes Youth information technology: Coordinating with Information and Television Department, Science Technology Department, Education Training Department, Society of Information Technology and Ho Chi Minh television station to organize the first program since 1990. Its candidates are students who have gift for information technology from primary schools to universities. Creativeness contest for children and youth: Coordinating with Science Technology Department, Education Training Department, Alliance of Science Technology Societies and Ho Chi Minh television station to organize programmes for children and youth aged between 6 and 30 years old with the aim of provoking creative thoughts among the children and youth in the city. Eureka: Coordinating with Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City to organize annually (since 1999). Eureka is a reward for scientific and creative research projects for students studying in universities, colleges, academies of the city to motivate and encourage students to be more active in study and scientific research and propose specific ideas, solutions, new inventions to improve the quality of training and education, build and develop the city and our country. Nursery garden: The programme is held annually by the City Group and the Science Technology Department. Center for youth science and technology development the chair unit has developed the programme for lecturers and young intellectuals aged from under 35 with the aim of nursing future science researchers. Sponsorship fund for young talents: Established according to Decision No. 1871/QD UB of Ho
Chi Minh City People's Committee on 7th December 1993 to pool every resource of society to support the development of young talents. Candidates for the sponsorship: children and youth from 6 to 30 years old. With the purpose of lifting the voluntary assault of young intellectuals on applying the knowledge of science and technology to the development of the City, focusing mainly on agriculture and the new rural development. The programme is held for young intellectuals and lecturers who are working and studying at Centers, Institues, Universities, Colleges and Academies in Ho Chi Minh City and have expertise as well as ability of introduction and advice on science and technology. Festival: The festival is annually organized so as to introduce and exhibit creative products, models and ideas of children and youth in every field; to create a playground for exchanges of learning and academic knowledge relating to scientific research.
