Authorized Gas Testers must attend the required JO training course in the training center or be qualified by a JO approved training course. What kind of multi-gas monitor do I need? As a minimum, all portable gas detection equipment systems in use within Joint Operations shall have all of the following components:
The instrument handbook The manufacturers accessories (e.g. sampling line(s), probe(s), water trap, hand aspirators, instrument cover) as appropriate The manufacturers calibration kit (or bump test/response check kit) Spare, fresh batteries of the approved type, and/or the approved battery charger Consumable spares (as appropriate) e.g. filters The gas detection instrument Bump-test kit
Note: Some confined spaces may have unique hazards that will require special monitoring How often do we need to calibrate our monitor? A field calibration is required once a month. A manufactures calibration is required according to the manufactures required timeframe. Do we bump test, how often? Yes, it is required to bump test each multi-gas monitor before the days use. Who calibrates monitors? Calibration of monitors to the specifications outlined by the manufacture is the responsibility of the instrument owner What is the JO employees role in gas testing? Most divisions have assigned Authorized Gas Testers who are JO employees. Their role is to verify the locations atmosphere is within tolerable limits before the Permit Approver authorizes the permit.
