This chapter gives information needed for project managers and foremen, for presentation to the customer and site planning.

1 Overview

1.1 Presentation
Note:
The logical configuration can be activated completely independently from the physical connection of the BTS. Creating adjacencies and call tests must be conducted after the BTS is functional and connected to the network. Coordination is needed between BTS and OMC-R sites to define the initial settings. The Qmux address must always be set. For A9100/A910 BTSs, the transmission mode is configured via OML. The GPRS option is not applicable when the Abis chain to the BTS is passing through a satellite connection. G1 MKII BTSs can only be used if they have a BIUMD card (Chain) and if they are equipped with DRFU. They cannot be used if they have a BIU2M card (Star). If they have the BIU2M card, either the BTS or the card must be replaced. G2 BTSs can only be used if they have a FUMO or DRFU card. They cannot be used if they have a FUCO card, in this case either the BTS or the card must be replaced. In order to create a required configuration it is also possible to add more than one new BTS and more than one cell. In this case it is better to perform all the logical parameters modification into a single PRC.

1.1.1 Cases
The following cases apply: C1: BTS is installed on a new Abis. There is no traffic outage. C2: BTS is installed on an existing Abis with downstream BTSs. This case causes a traffic outage on the downstream BTSs. C3: BTS is installed at the end of an Abis chain (no downstream BTSs). There is no traffic outage.

1.1.2 Options
The method takes into account one option: O1 : Configuring the GPRS for the cells O2 : Abis connection via satellite. O3: Create cell(s) shared (applicable only for A9100 BTSs ).

1 Overview

1.2 Preparation
1.2.1 Prerequisites
The following prerequisites apply: BTS sites are clean, tidy and easily reachable. The Abis is installed and tested. For Case 2, the jumper linking the upstream and downstream BTSs has been installed. This jumper is removed during this scenario. BTS(s) is installed and commissioned. For option O3: Clock synchronization cable(s) must be already installed between BTSs involved into cell shared . BTS(s) must be configured with the correct initial settings. There are adequate resources to handle the new traffic channels and LapD. All BTS SW packages and OMU-CPF are loaded in BSC memory.

1.2.2 Site Specific Information

You need the following site specific information: Identification of cases and options to perform BTS site topology Case 1: Characteristics of the Abis (name, Qmux TS if BTS(s) to insert is G1/G2 BTS). Characteristics of the BTS(s) (family, HW generation, name, Qmux address, number of sectors, mode of transmission, antenna diversity, master or slave, Qmux TS for G1/G2 BTS). List of cells to create with parameters value ( LAC, CI, frequency, TS definition). The list has to be exhaustive. List of cells supporting GPRS and parameters value ( RA code, RA color, Min_Pdch, Max_Pdch_High_Load, Max_Pdch ) List of adjacencies with parameters (list of impacted cells, direction of the HO)

1.2.3 External Tasks

The following external task is to be taken into account: 1. All cells are declared at MSC site 2. Ask the personnel at MSC to perform a MSC database update for taking into account the parameters for the new BTS. 3. In case of Option 2, check and update if needed the CRC4 for the Abis at the BSC site. 4. Update adjacencies on neighbours OMCs if necessary

1.3 Scheduling
Table 1 describes the sites, personnel and duration of each Grouped task and the total time to perform the scenario. Time based on technical constraints The times in the following table do not take into account individual customer or safety requirements.

2 Scenario

2.1 Before Going On-site

Before going on-site, you must check the following information are available. All Prerequisites (Section 1.2.1) are fulfilled. The customer has been informed about the: Date Time Site name Site address Purpose of the operation. Personnel are available and ready for the operation (see Scheduling (Section 1.3)).

Site Specific Information (Section 1.2.2) is available and ready for operation. Tools (Section 1.5.1) are available and ready for operation. Supplies (Section 1.5.2) are available and ready for operation.
Documentation is available and ready for operation.

2.2 Before you start

Check that all Prerequisites (Section 1.2.1) in the overview are fulfilled. Well check the availability of all necessary tools and material Inform the operator. Among the cases (C1, C2, C3) described within Overview chapter 1.1.1, identify which are your cases. Identify as well the option you have choosen.

2.3 Scenario Description

The detailed tasks for adding a BTS are described below.

Note:

Case specific tasks are marked with a C1, C2 or C3 in the Note column. Detailed Tasks that do not have C1, C2 and C3 in the note column are common to all three cases and must be performed. To add a BTS to: A new Abis, use Case 1 (C1) An existing Abis with downstream BTSs, use Case 2 (C2) A BTS to the end of an existing Abis (no downstream BTSs), use Case 3 (C3). Options are marked with O1, O2, O3 in the Note column. Detailed tasks that have O1, O2, O3 are applied only if that option is choosen.

2.3.1 Perform initial checks

For option O3 : Declare the new BTS in slave and select the concerned Master BTS name, if is necessary. If you receive any error messages, see Checking for Sufficient Resources on Abis. Wait for the Information window confirming the creation of the new BTS, click on &ok. Wait for the transmission programming flag to change from Abis to idle Verify with the BTS site that the initial settings are correct. Set BSS/BSC Telecom Parameters in PRC1 to update GPRS parameters if needed. This task includes the modification of CAE data specific to the MFS.

If GPRS parameters have to be modified on cell(s) then, Edit n Cells in PRC. Modify parameters such as Min_Pdch and Max_Pdch_High_Load, Max_Pdch, Routing Area Code or Routing Area Color

Notice1: To have GPRS on the cell GPRS Pref.mark must be different from 0. To modify it, use the java script Set/Update GPRS pref. Mark using script Notice2: to modify only one cell, the operator can use the edit cell command (see Set Cell Telecom Parameters ) Notice3:For O3 : GPRS Pref. mark =0, for secondary sector.

Click on <Apply and check> in the Edit Cell window to save cell modifications in the PRC1. Wait for the message No error or warning and click on &ok. If the check produces error messages, correct the configuration as required and re-attempt the check. Continue corrections and checks until no errors occur. Click on <Close> to exit from the Edit Cell window.

2.3.5 Insert BTS

To minimize traffic outage, you must keep the time between the lock and unlock cells to a minimum. For option O 3: Clock synchronization cable(s) must be already installed between BTSs involved into cell shared . If the cables are not installed perform this installation using chapter Install Synchronization Cables form BTS Site Master/ Slave Synchronization scenario.

Task Description If not done previously, the BTS must be physically connected to the new Abis link (use BTS Connection ). Inform the OMC-R you are ready to insert the BTS into the Abis link. In the Abis Interface View Window, select the Abis chain/ring where you insert the new BTS. Write down the BTSs that are downstream from the new BTS. Go to the SC and lock the cells, use Shut Down Cell of these downstream BTSs (WTC=3 min ). Inform the BTS site when the cells are locked.

Use Unlock Cell, to unlock the cells of the downstream BTSs. After connection the new BTS will enable its OML link. Unlock BTS O&M Capability of the added BTSs. It starts the download for each new BTS. After a time the OMC-R will automatically trigger a HW and alarm audit for the each new BTS. All the boards of the BTS must appear on OMC-R BSS equipment view. Wait until the end of BTS(s) audit.
