LA TRADUCCIN: UNA ACTIVIDAD CREATIVA Sara Barrena

Antes de comenzar a traducir un texto conviene tener una cierta comprensin terica de la tarea que vamos a realizar. En qu consiste traducir? 1 En contra de lo que a veces se piensa no se trata de una tarea principalmente mecnica. Es cierto que hay que aplicar unas reglas gramaticales y unos cdigos lingsticos, pero traducir no es seguir un comportamiento regulado paso a paso, sino que es una actividad que conlleva una parte importante de descubrimiento, de "inventar" las expresiones que se adecuen al significado de lo que vamos a traducir. La traduccin puede considerarse como una actividad creativa. Por ello las mquinas, los programas de traduccin automtica, nunca lograrn sustituir con perfeccin a los seres humanos en esta tarea. La creatividad es lo que marca la diferencia entre dos traducciones que expresan lo mismo, una de las cuales reconocemos como buena y otra no. Una traduccin puede ser realizada no slo con exactitud, sino tambin con ms o menos belleza.

Prctica de la Traduccin Literaria

La mente humana procesa y traduce los signos, produce interpretantes que a su vez son nuevos signos. En la traduccin partimos de un signo, a partir del que se crea en la mente un interpretante, y el traductor busca otro cuyo significado sea equivalente a se. No es una operacin exacta, sino un proceso abierto, continuo, como lo es la *semiosis, en el que se producen nuevos signos que pueden ser incluso ms desarrollados que los primeros. La existencia de diferencias difcilmente solubles entre unos y otros interpretantes no es, como ha sealado Wenceslao Castaares un factor a favor de la intraducibilidad, sino ms bien una seal de la necesidad de aceptar una concepcin ms amplia y flexible de la racionalidad, y una forma de racionamiento ms libre que la deduccin o la aplicacin automtica de reglas. La traduccin se vincula as a una forma de razonar imaginativa y creativa. La traduccin por tanto no es ms que un proceso abierto de interpretacin. Hay que superar el miedo a no ser literal, siempre que se mantenga el significado original, es decir, el alma del signo (CP 6.455, 1908). En la traduccin se proporciona al significado una forma material distinta, dentro de esa evolucin continua de los signos.
