INTRODUCTION : The acidic content of foods and beverages contributes significantly to their taste. Especially soft drinks often obtain various quantities of several acids such as citric acid, phosphoric acid and carbonate acid. Those acids can consider as weak acid. Phosphoric acid are common found in soft drinks where it also one of the weak triprotic acids. It's cocentration can be determined by titration method with strong basic solution. PROBLEM STATEMENT : How does the concentration of phosphoric acid found in soft drinks determine the acidiccontent of the 5 types of soft drinks ? OBJECTIVE : 1. To determine the pH or acidic content of various soft drinks. 2. To calculate the concentration of phosphoric acid after titration with sodium hydroxide, NaOH. 3. To compare the acidic content or pH of 5 types of soft drinks. RESEARCH QUESTIONS : 1.What brand of soft drink has the highest and lowest pH ? 2. Does the other acids such as citric acids and carbonic acids affect result ? 3. Which acid-base indicator is suitable for this titration ? SAMPELS: Sprite 250ml, Tinge 250ml, POP original 250ml, Revive 250ml, 7-Up 250ml. MATERIALS: One bottles of distilled water, methyl orange indicator / phenolphthalein, soft drinks. APPARATUS: burette, measuring cylinder, retort stand with clamp, volumetric flask, conical flask, white tile, beakers, dropper, bunsen burner, wire gauze, glass rod, filter funnel.

METHODOLOGY: Preparation of 500cm3 0.05moldm-3 of NaOH. 1. Approximately _ g of solid NaOH is weighed by electronic weighing. 2. The solid NaOH is dissolve into distilled water in a beaker. 3. The solution is stirred until the solid NaOH is dissolve completely and pour into500 cm3 of volumetric flask. 4. The residue in beaker and glass rod is rinsed by distilled water and pour into it. 5. Distilled water is added into volumetric flask until the solution level reached calibration mark. 6. The volumetric flask is close by a stopper and stirred consistency. 7. 500cm3 0.02mol dm-3 of NaOH is ready for titration. Titration of acids in soft drinks with NaOH. 1.20cm3 of soft drink is measured by measuring cylinder. 2.The soft drink is poured into conical flask, followed by adding 2 to 3 drops of acidbase indicator. 3.50cm3 of NaOH is poured into burette by filter funnel. 4. The apparatus is set up as standard titration method. 5. The NaOH is added slowly, followed by drop by drop into conical flask. 6. The conical flask is swirled during titration. 7. When the colour of soft drink change from colourless to pink, the final volume of NaOH is recorded.
