Instead, they should set the computer to reboot using OS9.x, then shut down the computer and restart. - 64 MB RAM minimum - CD-ROM drive (12x or faster) - Monitor resolution of 800 x 600 or higher - Virtual memory should be turned on - Microphone - QuickTime 5.0 or higher (B) Installation Instructions This version of SIDE by SIDE Interactive may be run from the computer's hard drive. ALL of the files on the CD-ROM must be copied to the same directory (folder) on the computer's hard drive. To do so, please follow these steps: WINDOWS USERS: - Create a new folder on the computer's hard drive. - Insert the CD-ROM into the computer's CD-ROM drive. - Double-click on "My Computer," and then double-click on the CD-ROM drive. - Copy all of the files and folders on the CD-ROM drive. - Paste those files and folders into the new folder that you created on the

computer's hard drive. MACINTOSH USERS: - Create a new folder on the computer's hard drive. - Insert the CD-ROM into the computer's CD-ROM drive. - Double-click on the Side by Side icon. - Drag all of the files and folders in the Side by Side window to the ne w folder that you created on the computer s hard drive. Note: If you install more than one SIDE by SIDE Interactive CD-ROM on the computer's hard drive, the files for each CD-ROM must be copied into a different directory (folder). Suggestion: It may be helpful to create a shortcut (WINDOWS USERS) or alias (MACINTOSH USERS) on the computer's desktop. If you install more than one SIDE by SIDE Interactive CD-ROM on the computer's hard drive, each shortcut (alias) must have a different name. (C) QuickTime Installation - QuickTime 5.0 or higher is required. - If QuickTime is not installed on your computer, double-click on the "QuickTime Installer" folder in the CD-ROM window. Then double-click on the "QuickTimeInstaller" file. Follow the instructions on screen to complete the installation. - To check which version of QuickTime is installed on your computer, follow these steps: WINDOWS USERS: 1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel. 2. Double-click on "QuickTime." 3. Choose "About QuickTime" from the menu at the top of the window. Your version number will be displayed. Note: If you do not see this option, you may have an older version installed. In that case, we recommend that you install QuickTime 5.0 by following the instructions above. Note: For maximum compatibility, it is common for Windows systems to have multiple versions of QuickTime. Carefully search through your control panel for other QuickTime versions. MACINTOSH USERS: 1. Double-click on the hard drive. 2. Double-click on the System folder. 3. Double-click on the Extension folder. 4. Select "QuickTime Extensions" with a single click. 5. In the File menu, select "Get Info." This will show your computer's version of QuickTime.

(D) How to Run the Program Go to the directory (folder) where the CD-ROM has been installed. Then doubleclick on the Side by Side icon. Or, if a desktop shortcut (alias) has been created for the CD-ROM, double-click on it. Suggestion for WINDOWS USERS: For best viewing, set the monitor resolution to 1024 by 768 pixels. To change this setting: - Click on Start > Settings > Control Panel. - Double-click on "Display." - Click on the "Settings" tab. - Set the "Screen area" to 1024 by 768 pixels, and then click on the "OK" button . Note for MACINTOSH USERS: MACINTOSH USERS need an external microphone plugged in and the Sound Monitoring Source set to use the record feature. To check this setting: - Double-click on the hard drive > System folder > Apple Menu Items > Control Panels > Sound. - Click on the "Input" tab. - Under "Choose a source for sound input," select "Built-in." - Under "Settings for input device and source," select "External Mic." Note: It is possible to run the course from the CD-ROM instead of from the computer's hard drive. To do so, please follow these steps: WINDOWS USERS: - Insert the CD-ROM. - Double-click on "My Computer." - Double-click on the CD-ROM drive icon. - Double-click on the Side by Side icon.
