Cultural Centre Our Visit to the Cultural Centre After waiting excitedly for a week, on Monday everyone in Grade 5 finally went to the Cultural Centre. It made me so proud to be an Emirati. The Centre has three buildings. It has a large library. It also has an enormous hall. The main entrance has a beautiful fountain which is so calming to sit and listen to and watch. We discovered that the Centre was built in 1976. I think it is one of the most important buildings in our country, because it contains and represents our cultural heritage. We watched a show put on by some Grade 5 children from another school. Their performance was really spectacular. I would love to perform there one day. Grade 5 had a great day! By Sara, Al Ain Primary School. Sara wrote that her class

Marbling is lots of fun. You can make some really interesting patterns using a few supplies most kids will have around their home. What Youll Need Water Toothpicks Newspaper A large disposable foil cake pan Sheets of white or coloured paper Oil-based (sometimes called) enamel paints What to do 1. Fill the pan with water, until it is about half full. 2. Drop small amounts of paint on top of the water. Move the paint around using the toothpicks. There
are lots of di erent things you can do with the paint swirl it, mix it up, drop it, splash it. Use your imagination! However youll need to work quickly as oil paints can start to harden on top of the water. If this does happen, youll nd it di cult to move the paint around and it will start to break up. This makes it hard to create an interesting pattern.

Marbling

3. When youre happy with your design, gently place a piece of paper on top of the water. Then press down softly to make sure there are no air bubbles to spoil your pattern.

4. Starting at one end, slowly roll the paper o the surface of the water. 5. Lay the paper face up on the newspaper to dry. 6. When your creation is completely dry, use a warm iron to atten any pages that are curled or wrinkled. 7. You can use your paper to cover books or boxes or make collages or cards. When you have more skill, you can try marbling small plastic objects like containers or pens.
