Lesson objective(s): SL3: Articulation-Phonemic Awareness-Identify and generate rhyming words. Differentiation strategies to meet diverse learner needs: Use of ipads to read along with the app that reads the story aloud. Discussion of story among groups in order to fully comprehend story. Interactive game to drive home lesson with application. ENGAGEMENT
Describe how the teacher will capture students interest. What kind of questions should the students ask themselves after the engagement?

Have a Dr. Seuss theme day to introduce lesson. Engagement activity will be a fun question that each child answers as his or her name is called on the role. Such as what they did over the weekend, or if they have any pets. Students should be focused in on me and be ready to begin the lesson. EXPLORATION
Describe what hands-on/minds-on activities students will be doing. List big idea conceptual questions the teacher will use to encourage and/or focus students exploration

Students will be placed into groups with an ipad for each group. The story Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss will be read aloud from an app on the ipad or the students will read it aloud as they follow along with the text on ibooks. Each group will interact with the game Doras Rhyming Adventures. Each group will create a popcorn story. One person starts the story then popcorns the story to another person to add his or her own portion to it before popcorning to another person and so on until everyone has contributed and the story is finished. They will write down their story and publish it to the class website for parents to view. What do all the words in Green Eggs and Ham do? How does Dr. Seuss make the words rhyme? Which words rhyme throughout the story? How can you create your own rhyming words?

EXPLANATION
Student explanations should precede introduction of terms or explanations by the teacher. What questions or techniques will the teacher use to help students connect their exploration to the concept under examination? List higher order thinking questions that teachers will use to solicit student explanations and help them to justify their explanations.

Students should notice different word families. Have them tell me why those words should be grouped together (endings) 1

Describe how students will develop a more sophisticated understanding of the concept. What vocabulary will be introduced and how will it connect to students observations? How is this knowledge applied in our daily lives?

Through the games and through creating their own stories, students will gain a deep understanding of rhyming words. New vocabulary, such as word families and word endings, will be introduced. EVALUATION
How will students demonstrate that they have achieved the lesson objective? This should be embedded throughout the lesson as well as at the end of the lesson

The evaluation that they have learned the lesson will be the final story they create and publish online.
