IB Unit: Animals Walk and Talk.

Summative Assessment: George Orwell Brochure AoI: Environments In this unit, we have analyzed Animal Farm and discussed how it is an allegory for the Russian Revolution. We have also discussed George Orwell and his environment and how that might have impacted his writing. Assignment: In this assignment, you will create a travel brochure that follows destinations showing geographical location, major events and places that might have affected George Orwells writing. You will demonstrate your knowledge of this by providing examples from Animal Farm showing how it relates to The Russian Revolution. Also show how Orwells life was impacted by this revolution. In addition to creating a brochure, you will also write a one page typed, double-spaced reflection that summarizes how Orwells environment affected his writing. Directions: You will create a brochure to finish the Animals Walk & Talk unit. We have read Animal Farm, by George Orwell, with the intention of learning how an authors environment affects his/her writing. Analyze some key events and places in George Orwells life and create a brochure so you can visit places that have impacted his writing of Animal Farm. Here is how you can find a brochure template. Follow these steps:

Steps: I Begin by researching George Orwell and events in his life

II Go into Microsoft Word. Click on the File tab. Go under New Then select a brochure (tri-fold) template

III Selecting Images: After you are done with research on George Orwell and have an idea of how you are going to format the brochure, you will select images off the internet that are related to following main events and key details of his life. Follow these steps: IV Write Text Explaining Events or Places in Orwells Life Fill in the text of the template with information about George Orwell that relates to the images. This should follow a logical pattern that shows how the environment has affected his life. For our purposes, we will include parts of Animal Farm to show the end result of how his writing was affected by certain events. Go to Google Select Images Search for images Select an image Click on image and download it Save the image as a document Go under Insert tab and then select the image

Expectations: The brochure will include a tri-fold design. The brochure will have facts about George Orwells life. The brochure will include specific places to visit from Orwells life. These may be places where he lived, or demonstrations that Orwell participated in. The goal is to follow Orwell through his life so that you understand how his environment affected his writing. The brochure should have a travel guide feel to it. You are visiting George Orwells life.
