Brochure
Description: Date:
Full-color, duplex brochure March 30, 2013
Set up and align a two-sided, folded document Wrap text around an image in InDesign Use paragraph styling in InDesign
Process:
Using the ruler guides in InDesign, I created an offset, duplex layout on two landscape pages. I proceeded to make size and color alterations to a previously created logo in Illustrator and placed it on top of a beach image on the first page. I placed a sand texture on the inside and made two transparent, tan boxes to hold the text on the two inside pages. I placed four small images along the edge of the inside of the brochure so that the images would be visible from the front as well as inside. I put the logo on the back page and aligned all of the business information with the logo. In Photoshop, I enlarged the sun image from my logo and used the quick selection tool to remove the background of the logo. Using the refine mask tool, I smoothed out the edges of the sun and applied some feathering. I used a text wrap to surround the sun image with one of my text body paragraphs. Several text paragraphs were added to the brochure and were formatted using the paragraph styling option in InDesign.

Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Place a mask on a photo Blend two images through the adjustment of opacity levels Properly place text on an image in Photoshop
Process:
The background image was cropped to 8.5 x 11. I then placed the glass filter on the background image. Before I moved the picture of the little girl onto the image I removed any imperfections on the image using the clone stamp. I then altered the levels of the image by making it brighter with more contrast. The image was desaturated and finally moved onto the background image using the lasso tool. I placed a mask on the image of the little girl and proceed to use the brush tool at 100% opacity with black paint to remove the hard edge from the image. Using the brush tool at 30% opacity, I blended the image of the little girl with the background image of clouds. I finished the project by including a quote with two contrasting fonts.
Logos

Three original logos for the same company February 23, 2013
Course/Instructor: Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator
Objectives:
Use the basic tools of Illustrator Create a variety of logos for a particular company Consistency in basic shapes and colors
Process:
Using the shape tool, I drew an oval shape and two triangles to form a candy shape. I used the pen tool to draw three lines on each triangle to make the triangles look more like a wrapper. The logo was given a pink fill color with darker pink lines. I put the company name in the middle of the candy image. I used basic typography for the other two logos. For the second logo, I altered the size of the first and last letter in the company name, cradling the word Cinema. The third logo included a shrunken down version of the candy shape I created, placed within the company name.

Event Ad

A full-bleed event ad created using only Microsoft Word and a scanner February 02, 2013
Properly scan an image on computer Adjust resolution on image Remove background from an image using Word Use text boxes for layout in Word
Process:
I scanned a magazine image onto the computer using an Epson scanner. I made adjustments to resolution and filters prior to scanning the image, as well as doing a preview scan before the real scan. I opened my scanned image in Adobe Photoshop to make sure the pixels fit the correct parameters defined in the project. I opened the image in Microsoft Word and switched to the publishing layout. I removed the background from the image and placed it in the upper left hand corner of the page. I inserted a textured wood background behind the image and created a left alignment for the body text box. The body text box was given a transparent mint color while the text was left white.

Learn basic photography skills (spot metering and macro controls) Size and crop image Edit image using levels, filter effects, and selection tool Desaturate a selected portion of image
Process:
I captured this photo using my Canon PowerShot digital camera. After cropping the picture and altering the resolution, I changed the levels of the image to make the statue appear brighter and give it more contrast. I used the quick select tool, to select the inverse of the image. I desaturated the background of the statue and included a pinkish tone to it. The Smudgestick filter was placed on the background. Using the clone stamp tool I removed imperfections from the image using the clone stamp tool.
Business Card
Description: Date:
Matching letterhead and business card with a personally created logo March 03, 2013
Create a new logo using shapes and pen tool Properly size and place contact information Consistency in design for letterhead and business card
Process:
My logo was created by tracing the outline of the state of California in Illustrator. I then used the shape tool to place a semi-circle on the flat side of California and form the rectangular rays of the sun. Using the rectangle tool in InDesign, I shaped the outline of my business card. I placed my logo on the bottom left hand corner of the card and inserted contact information on the top right corner.
Letterhead

Matching letterhead and business card with a personally created logo March 03, 2012
Create a new logo using shapes and pen tool Properly size and place contact information Consistency in design for letterhead and business card
Process:
I opened an InDesign document and placed my logo in the top left hand corner. I placed my contact information on the top right corner of the letter and made the name and position title larger than the rest of the information. I placed a dashed line under my logo and ran it through my contact info, causing a break between the name and position title and the remainder of the contact info. I completed the letter by adding a watermark of the sun on the bottom right hand corner. After rotating the sun so the rays were facing inside the page, I lowered the opacity to 5%.
Flier

Course/Instructor: Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe InDesign
Objectives:
Apply design principles to ad Use ruler guides to align text and boxes Layer images and text Adjust transparency
Process:
After producing four sketches of potential flier ideas, I used one of the sketches as a basic layout for my flier in InDesign. I aligned my title and text box with one another to create a clean, left alignment. By having the woman in my image face toward my title I established good flow in my flier. I included a large title to stand as the focal point for the piece while keeping my body copy small and concise. I brought focus to the body copy and title by sandwiching them between two thin, black boxes.
Web Page
Description: Date:
Web page displaying custom logo March 16, 2013
Link a CSS into an HTML Validate an HTML document using W3.org Identify hex colors to place in web design
Process:
Using TextWrangler, I created my HTML document using the proper tags and codes to create the skeleton of my web page (including body text, titles, and an image). I attached a pre-made CSS document into my HTML. I began my design my placing an image of sand as the background of my web page. I used dark blue as the background for my Header 1 and then used the eyedropper tool in Photopshop to extract the orange color from my logo for subtitles. I changed my body copy font to Times New Roman and my titles to Tahoma, while including their font families in the CSS as back up fonts.
