Brochure
Description: A proffesional brochure that shows the combination of imaging,
typograpy, as well as the incorporation of an original logo which I designed.

Course/Instructor: COMM-130 Visual Media, Eric Lybbert Date: 3/29/13 Programs Used: Adobe Indesign, Adobe Photoshop Objective: Create an orginal Brochure to describe a company. Incorporate
images as well as an original design to advertise the company the closest to what the company stands for.

Process: I started with an original idea, to have a brochure that opened up to

the reader. I wanted a subtle yet powerful design on the front cover, followed by something to impresss the reader as they opened the brochure to its inner information. I placed nothing more than the image of the guitar and the hook on the cover. As the reader opens the brochure, a picture of the entire recording studio is revealed. The history of the company is explained in the text as well as the overall goals for the company. As you flip the brochure to the back, you see the logo, as well as my contact information. I based everything out of Adobe Indesign. I created an original idea, using the rulers and guides from Adobe Indesign to customize the final image.

Letterhead
Description: Original letterhead designed for Hook Records. Course/Instructor: COMM-130 Visual Media, Eric Lybbert Date: 3/2/13 Programs Used: Adobe Indesign Objective: Create an original letterhead and watermark to be used within a
company.

Process: Hook Records is a fictional record/recording company. The Logo

represents the company because it is a record, and the arm that has the needle that plays the record, is a hook. It also shows the catchiness of the company. Just as a hook gets a fish, Hook Records catches audiences. I already had the name Hook, because its a name that I have always liked. I always wanted to work for a record company, so I just put them togther. The more I played with the idea and the design, the better it turned out. I created the record in indesign, by making a circle, filling it with black, and then putting another circle above it, and filling it in. I then drew a Hook, with the pencil, tool. I changed the font do be the 3 lines, to show the similarity of the record lines. I then took the font Cracked, and placed it behind the hook.

Business Card
Description: Original business card designed for Hook Records. Course/Instructor: COMM-130 Visual Media, Eric Lybbert Date: 3/2/13 Programs Used: Adobe Indesign Objective: Create an original business card that can be distibuted to
promote the company.

Process: I followed the design that I created for my watermark and

letterhead and applied it to a small business card. I kept the logo intact, to show the similarity between company stationery and business cards. The objective that I was aiming for was to create brand management for the company Hook Records.

Web Page
Description: An original example of a webpage created for the company
Hook Records

Course/Instructor: COMM-130 Visual Media, Eric Lybbert Date: 3/16/13 Programs Used: Text Wrangler, Adobe Dreamweaver, Objective: Create a webpage writing personalized HTML and CSS code. Process: I used a basic template for CSS I changed all of the font families to a
Script and a Sans-serif combination. I also changed the colors of the page to match the red and Black color scheme of my logo. I first wrote the HTML code for my website. The bones for this design was given to me from my professor, but I customized the text to portray what I wanted from it. I made the outline in HTML code. I then placed the CSS code, which allowed me to edit the layout of the webpage. I changed the colors of the page through CSS code, to match my original logo design. I also changed the fonts through CSS code, to make the webpage have a better flow, as well as stronger contrast. The screenshot didnt turn out very attractive, just because I had to take two snapshots of the web page, because I wasnt able to get a single shot of the entire web page at one time.

Logos

Objective: Using Adobe Illustrator, create 3 original logo designs that can be used by a
professional company.

Process: Hook Incorporated isnt a real business, I made it up for this project. Although if I were

to ever make a business, I would name it that. When the project explained that we needed to do 3 different types, I wanted to try and make sure that I made each one different and unique. I wanted to design an image for one, Make one look fresh, and make one hip. For the first image, I wrote out the name of the company, and then looked at the possible effects I could use. I found the paint splotch, and began to play with it. I put a Charcoal effect on Hook inside of the paint splotch. I then took the brush tool, and made a line in the back, to give contrast to the logo. For the second logo, I traced an image of a Hook, that I found off of Google. After tracing it, I played with the coloring, and twisted the image a little. I then chose my favorite font, the same font that I used in each of the 3 examples, and underlined them in red for contrast. My last logo, I edited the font, and created my own. I played with the anchor points of the letter, which allowed me to shape the letter how I wanted. After a lot of time, I made the letters look like a hook. I really like how they turned out.

Montage
Description: Two Images blended using photoshop, to display an orginal
picture perfect image

Course/Instructor: COMM-130 Visual Media, Eric Lybbert Date: 2/16/13 Program Used: Adobe Photoshop Objective: Create an original image, through the use of masks and
blending in Adobe Photoshop.

Process: I brainstormed trying to figure out what kind of image I wanted

to use, and made some sketches on paper, of what I wanted to include. After I figured out the Image that I wanted, I searched online for images of starry night skies, as well as cities at night. I found the image of Paris, and I found the images on Google, and I imported them into Adobe Photoshop. After the Images were imported, I created a Mask for the image, in order to begin blending the images. After I successfully blended the images, I added the Quote by Henry David Thoreau and finished.

Flier
Description: Black and White Flier to promote a graduate leadership conference Course/Instructor: COMM-130 Visual Media, Eric Lybbert Date: 1/25/13 Program used: Adobe Indesign Objective: Create a flier for a Graduate Leadership Conference, using the provided
materials from the company.

Process: I first made many sketches giving me different drafts of flier layout options. I

then chose the one that I thought was going to be most effective. After I applied the image, title, and body copy of the information into the Indesign program. In Indesign, I centered, aligned, and applied all the visual media principles to create my flier. I focused on contrast with my title, having white letters on a black background. I repeated the color scheme of black, white, and grey which originated from the companies logo, and applied it to the entire flier. I made a small body copy, and bolded the most important aspects. I maintained, a continuous slanted flow. I used proximity, alignment, repetition, contrast, and flow to create my flier.

Imaging
Description: An image which I shot and edited using Adobe Photoshop. Course/Instructor: COMM-130 Visual Media, Eric Lybbert Date: 2/8/13 Program Used: Adobe Photoshop Objective: Practice editing an image using Adobe Photoshop, be sure to de-saturate an image, as well as change color tones.

Process: I first went and had a photo shoot at Porter Park, in Rexburg, Idaho. I

made sure to go when it was overcast, so I would have the best lighting conditions. After taking various photos, I opened each individual image in Adobe Photoshop, looking for the best image that I could use, according to the 66 inch crop that was required for the project. After choosing my image, I began to edit it in Photoshop. I used the Quick Selection tool, and selected my sweater, as well as the red bars of the jungle gym. I then de-saturated the rest of the image, keeping the color in-tact. A result was that the color was too vibrant, so I edited the colorization, to make the colors mix better.

Event Ad
Description: An Event ad, advertising an emergency Preparedness Expo. Course/Instructor: COMM-130 Visual Media, Eric Lybbert Program Used: Microsoft Word Date: 2/2/13 Objective: Advertise an event using nothing but Microsoft Word. Process: I first looked for an image, To give me an idea of what Kind of event
should be held. When I found the glass of water, I scanned it, and placed it in Microsoft word. I began to brainstorm about what kind of events would come to mind looking at the image. While in Word, I designed the poster around the image. I tried to use similar colors to the picture. More than anything, I thought back on the posters that I have seen that grabbed my attention throughout my life, and applied those principles to the poster. I focused on alignment and contrast on this project. Want to Learn: About Colors. I want to learn what colors really look good together, and how to determine if a certain warm color can lead to another color.

Event Ad (Re-do)
Description:
A street advertisement for a free concert.

Course/Instructor: COMM-130 Visual Media, Eric Lybbert Date: 4/5/13 Program Used: Adobe Illustrator Objective: I wanted to see how well I could create an event flier, in a
time period under 2 hours.

Process: I started just wanting to create an original flier, something

that I could place on streets, on walls, on cars, anything. I wanted to create something bold and original. I made sure to incorporate other important aspects of my original logo design, and I tried to make it as bold and simple as possible. I wanted to have contrast, and I feel like it turne out alright.
