When a book like this comes into existence, it was very hard to name and thank all the people that helped me shape this book. It took me more than six years to consolidate and format all the content in a manner that may benefit the readers.

Preface I started writing this book on various subjects so that it can offer the basic guidance to the people preparing for any type of competition in their life whether it is on educational field or any competitive games. The scope of this book is not to deep dive on any subject rather swim across various layers which what one need to qualify for winning large sum on Hot Seat. This book cannot be used to gain exhaustive knowledge on any given subject but it provides enough information that you can easily remember and be better prepared for the game. Global Supermarket & Retail Outlets Aldi


Aldi, supermarket chain of Germany, two separate groups Aldi Nord (North) and Aldi Sud (South), owned and managed by two brothers individually. Aldi Nord operates in Denmark, France, Poland etc. Aldi Sud operates in Ireland, Hungary, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Australia etc. It also operates in United States separately, having more than 8000 Stores worldwide.

Big Bazaar
Big Bazaar is largest hypermarket chain in India, having more than 200 Stores in 90 cities. It is owned by Future Group. Have wide varieties of household items, apparels, food products, furnitures, electronic items, books, fast food, etc. Pantaloons, Food Bazaar, Shoe Factory, eZONE and Home Town are also owned by Future Group. The present logo since 2011 is Naye India Ka Bazaar after replacing earlier logos 'Isse Sasta Aur Accha Kahin Nahin', Sabse Sasta Din, Hafte ka sabse sasta din and Maha Bachat.

Carrefour
Carrefour is a multinational retail chain of France and is one of the largest hypermarket chains in the world with 1400 outlets. It operates mainly in Europe, Argentina, Brazil, China, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, North Africa and few parts of Asia. Carrefour operates cash and carry stores in India at Delhi, Jaipur and Meerut as Carrefour Wholesale Cash & Carry Outlet.

Costco
Costco Wholesale Corporation is one of the fifth largest retail chain in United States and largest Membership Warehouse Club. It has its main locations in United States, Canada, Mexico but it has also its stores in United Kingdom, Australia, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan etc. In near future Costco is planning to launch its business in India also.

CVS
Consumer Value Store (CVS) is the largest pharmaceutical chain in the United States having more than 6000 stores. It sells both prescription drugs and over-the-counter drugs including beauty products, cosmetics, film and photo finishing services, greeting cards etc. It also provides healthcare services through its clinics located within the stores. Minute Clinic health care centers diagnose and treat common illness such as Throat, Ear, Eye, Sinus, Bronchial infections, Vaccinations of Flu, Tetanus, Hepatitis A & B etc.

IKEA
IKEA (Ingvar Kamprad Elmtaryd Agunnaryd) is Hypermarket chains of Sweden. Ingvar Kamprad is the name of the founder and Elmtaryd Agunnaryd is the name of Farm house and village. It is the largest furniture retail outlet in the world and has about 330 Stores in 38 countries. IKEA is also planning to enter the Indian market by opening 25 Stores from 2014 onwards.

JC Penney
JC Penney is a chain of departmental stores of America. It has about 1100 stores in the United States. The company is an Internet retailer since 1998 and has given its services to most of the countries including India. JC Penney is planning to come to Indian market to have their business with Arvind Mills, Vardhaman and Madura Garments etc. and orders for knitted items, sleepwear and bottoms on a large scale. JC Penney already has a supplier base in India and currently sources apparel, shoes, home furnishing and diamonds etc. The company buys T-shirts, men's suits, blouses, denim bottoms and sports jackets from India.

Jusco
Jusco (Japan United Stores Company) is a chain of retailing hypermarkets of Japan. Jusco is a subsidiary of AEON Ltd. It operates throughout Japan including Malaysia, Hong Kong, China and Thailand.

Kohls
Kohl's is one of the largest Departmental Store chain of the United States and have about 1100 Stores in 49 States except Hawaii. It sells a variety of goods such as apparel, shoes and accessories, home products, electronic products, kitchen appliances, Electric shavers, tooth brushes, vacuums & floor care, bedding, toys and luggage.

Kroger
Kroger is a major retail chain of Stores of United States. It has 3500 Stores in 31 states of America directly or through its subsidiaries mainly in Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Texas etc. It is also a parent company of Ralph's in California, QFC, Smiths. It holds Supermarkets, Hypermarkets, Departmental Stores, Convenience Stores and Jewelry Stores. Kroger branded grocery stores are located throughout the United States.

KMart
Kmart is an American chain of discount stores. It is the third largest discount store chain in the world. It has 1300 stores across 49 states of America. Kmart carry electronics, music, movies, bedding, hardware, sporting goods, clothing, toys, jewelry, office supplies, health and beauty products, home decor and a limited selection of food items. Many stores also have a pharmacy and K-Cafe serving Hot Dogs and pizza.

LuLu
LuLu Hypermarket is a retail venture of EMKE Group of Abu Dhabi. It has about 105 outlets at Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Yemen, Qatar, Egypt, India etc. The Managing Director Mr. M.A. Yousuf Ali has been awarded with Padma Shree by Govt. of India in the year 2008. Lulu Hypermarket of India at Kochi is the largest and latest shopping mall in India opened in 2013. It is built on an area of more than 2 lac sq.ft. out of total area of about 40 lac sq.ft. The remaining space has been blocked for a premium five-star hotel to be managed by JW Marriott Hotels. On the ground floor, it sells fresh, frozen and canned food, fruits and vegetables, butchery, bakery, hot food counters etc.

Lulu Fashion Store is on the First floor, sells garments, footwear, luggage, cosmetics, electronic goods etc. The restaurant and a coffee shop are located on Second floor to seat around 4500 persons at a time.

On 3rd floor it comprises Indoor Games, Computer game zone and bowling alley. A nine screen multiplex PVR is on 5th floor.

Meijer
Meijer is an American hypermarket chain in Michigan. It was founded by a Dutch barber named Hendrik Meijer who entered into grocery business with his son. It has about 200 Stores with 175 Gas Stations in different locations. The company outsourced 81 Information Technology positions to India in 2006. The store contains groceries, clothing, footwear, gasoline, bedding, furniture, jewelry, health and beauty products, toys, sporting equipment, electronics, housewares and pet supplies. Most Meijer stores are open 24 hours a day all the year except Christmas Day.

Macys
Macy's is a chain of department stores of United States of America. It operates at 800 locations in the States and globally in about 90 countries. Macys e-commerce service is working in India which manages international order life cycle, payment processing and logistics for the websites. It offers Apparel, Footwear, Hand bags, Jewelry and Accessories and Home dcor items in Indian currency.

Metro AG
Metro AG is a German global retail and wholesale cash and carry group. It is one of the largest chain of retail market in the world. It has about 300 stores in Germany and other locations are at Europe, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, India, China, Japan, Pakistan and Egypt. Metro Cash & Carry opened its first wholesale Store in India at Bengaluru in 2003 and now there are 15 wholesale centers in operation at Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Ludhiana, New Delhi, Vijaywada, Amritsar and Jaipur.

Reliance Fresh
Reliance Fresh is the retail and convenience store of India. It is owned by Reliance Industries of India, headed by Mukesh Ambani. It has 450 Reliance Fresh outlets across the country. These stores sell fresh fruits and vegetables, staples, groceries, fresh juice, bars and dairy products. Reliance Retail is also a subsidiary company of Reliance Industries Ltd. who entered into an alliance with Apple for setting up a chain of Apple Specialty Stores branded as iStore starting from Bengaluru. It was founded in 2006. It offers foods, groceries, apparel and footwear, lifestyle and home improvement products, electronic goods, vegetables, fruits, flowers, consumer goods, consumer durables, travel services, energy, entertainment and leisure and health etc.

7-Eleven
7-Eleven is a chain of convenience stores of Japan and is also largest franchise operator and Licensor in the world with more than 48000 outlets. 7-Eleven branded stores are located in 16 countries with its largest markets in Japan, United States and Thailand. The other locations are Canada, Philippines, Australia, China, South Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia etc. The company name was Totem earlier which was changed to 7Eleven because of its working hours are from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. all the days.

Shoppers Stop
Shoppers Stop is an Indian department store chain, promoted by the K. Raheja group. It has 56 stores across the country. It retails a range of branded apparel, footwear, jewelry, leather products, accessories and home products. Shoppers Stop launched its e-store with delivery across major cities in India. Shoppers Stop acquired bookstore chain Crossword. Home Stop is premium home furnishings store offers home decor, furniture and accessories, bath accessories, bedroom furnishings, mattresses, carpets, modular kitchens and health equipment.

Spinneys
Spinneys is a supermarket chain of Middle East since 2011. It operates in Qatar, Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan. Through franchise agreements, 29 Spinneys stores are located in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Ajman (UAE).

Spar
Spar is an international retail chain and franchise company of Netherlands. The Spar stores are located in Europe, Nigeria, South Africa, Australia, Mauritius, China, Japan and India. It is world's largest independent food retail chain with over 14000 stores in 37 countries. A wide variety of grocery, fruit and vegetables, bakery, dairy, meat, poultry and fish, wine, beer and spirits, textiles, personal care, crockery, utensils and kitchen appliances, electronics and IT accessories etc. are available in these Stores. In India it is run under license agreement between Landmark Group's Max Hypermarkets India Pvt. Ltd. and Spar International and presently has its Stores in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Mangalore.

Spencers
Spencer's Retail is a chain of retail stores of India, owned by RPG Group. Presently there are about 200 stores across 45 cities in India. Private Brands in Spencers offer a wide range of products of food, personal care, fashion, home utilities etc. Smart Choice, Tasty Wonders, Clean Home and Maroon are some of Spencers brand. Maroon is a brand of premium home care solutions and Natures Best is a brand name of freshly packed greens. Sporty, Trendy, Island Monks, Mark Nicolas, Asankhya (womens ethnic wear), Scorez (sportswear), La Bonita (footwear) are other private brands of Spencers.

Target
Target brand is an American Retailing company which was earlier known as Dayton. It is the second largest discount retailer in the United States and has about 1800 outlets in different locations.

It has extended its business to Canada from the year 2011.

In Indian market, it has launched its business in 2005 from Bengaluru.

ToysRUs
Toys "R" Us is a Retail Store of America which is especially dedicated to Toys and juvenile products i.e. for children. It operates more than 875 Stores in the United States alone and more than 625 stores in 35 countries. It also operates e-commerce sites. Toys R Us may launch its Stores from 2014 with joint venture of Reliance Retail in India.

Tesco
Tesco is a British multinational grocery and general retailer. It is the 3rd largest retailer in the world. It has its stores in 14 countries across Asia, Europe and North America. Tesco brand is available in India with joint venture of Tata Group.

The Home Depot


The Home Depot is an American retailer of home construction products and services. It operates across all the States of America, Canada, Mexico and China. The fuel centers sell beer, hot food, snacks along with providing diesel at a separate island. It also offers car washes.

Walmart
Walmart is an American multinational retail chain of department stores. It has employed about two million employees and is biggest private employer in the world. Walmart has 8500 stores in 15 countries. The company operates as Walmart in United States, Walmex in Mexico, Asda in United Kingdom and Seiyu in Japan. In India, with a joint venture with Bharti Enterprises in 2006, it has

opened Departmental Stores under the name Best Price at Jammu, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bathinda, Jalandhar, Meerut, Agra,

Lucknow, Kota, Bhopal, Indore, Raipur, Amravati, Aurangabad, Hyderabad, Guntur, Rajahmundry, Vijaywada etc.

Renowned Fast Food Outlet Chains Burger King


Burger King is a chain of hamburger fast food restaurants of United States. It has more than 12000 outlets in 73 countries. It is the fourth largest fast food restaurant chain. In Australian market it is run under the name Hungry Jacks. In Indian market, Burger King came into existence in 2006.

Dominos Pizza
Domino's Pizza is an International pizza chain headquartered at Michigan, United States. It is 2nd largest Pizza Chain in the world. It has more than 10000 corporate and franchise stores in 70 countries. It serves both vegetarian and nonvegetarian pizzas, chicken wings, sandwiches, pasta, cheese breads and a variety of dessert items. The franchise of the chains are at Brazil, Australia, South Korea, New Zealand, France, Belgium, Netherlands etc. The exclusive franchise rights for India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are currently owned by Jubilant Food Works.

Dunkin Donuts
Dunkin' Donuts is a coffee house chain of United States of America globally. The products are Hot beverages, Cappuccino, Espresso Coffee, Hot tea, Vanilla Chai, Iced coffee, Bakery goods, Muffins, Sandwiches etc. The slogan America Runs on Dunkin' is a popular slogan since 2007. Presently about ten thousand stores are operational worldwide in 32 countries including India.

KFC
KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) is a fast food restaurant chain of United States of America and is specialized in fried chicken. It is 2nd largest restaurant chain with over 17000 outlets in 115 countries. The major markets of KFC are United States, China, Japan, United Kingdom, Canada, South Africa, Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. The first Indian KFC was opened in Bengaluru in 1995 which was closed due to health issue of nearby villagers. KFC returned in Indian market in 1999. Presently there are 300 KFCs in Indian market.

McDonald
McDonald's is United States based largest chain of hamburger fast food restaurants in the world serving around 68 million customers daily in 119 countries through 31000 restaurants. McDonald's sells hamburgers, cheese burgers, chicken, French fries, soft drinks, milk shakes, desserts, Salads, Wraps and fruits. McDonald's outlets started in India with HRPL, a Development Licensee since 2010. Presently, McDonald's India has a network of over 250 restaurants across the country serving more than 6.5 lakhs customers daily. About 10000 people are employed in these outlets in India. India is the first country in the world where McDonald's does not offer any beef or pork items.

Pizza Hut
Pizza Hut is an American restaurant chain and international franchise that offers different styles of pizza along with salad, pasta, bufallo wings, bread sticks and garlic bread. It is a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, Inc., the world's largest restaurant company. There are more than 6,000 Pizza Hut restaurants in the United States and more than 5000 store located in 94 other countries around the world. Pizza Hut had entered into India in 1996.

Subway

Subway is an American restaurant franchise chain and is one of the fastest growing franchises in the world with about 40000 restaurants in 98 countries. It is the largest single brand restaurant chain globally. Subway's core product is the submarine sandwich. In addition to it Subway also sells wraps, salad and baked goods. Subway opened its first restaurant in India in 2001 at New Delhi. In

India, it does not serve beef and pork products and sell an extended vegetarian range. There are 324 Subway restaurants in 65 cities of India as on date. Subway uses the advertising slogan "Eat Fresh" and focuses on how their sandwiches are made from freshly baked bread and fresh ingredients in front of customers to their exact specifications.

Starbucks
Starbucks Corporation is a global coffee company chain of United States. It is the largest coffee house company in the world with about 20000 outlets in 60 countries. Its main market is United States, Canada, Japan, Britain, China, South Korea, Africa, Asia, Europe, Egypt, Australia, New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Germany, Switzerland, United Kingdom etc. It sells drip brewed coffee, espresso based hot drinks, coffee beans, salads, hot and cold sandwiches and Panini sandwiches, sweet pastries etc. It also sells specially designed Mugs and Tumblers. Starbucks brand ice cream and Coffee is also sold at Grocery Stores. In January 2012 Starbucks has launched with a 50-50 joint venture with Tata Global Beverages Limited as Starbucks Coffee "A Tata Alliance in India and already opened its first Store at Mumbai in October, 2012. Presently its outlets are operational in India at IGI Airport Delhi and Mumbai only.

Taco Bell
Taco Bell is an American chain of fast food restaurants. It is a subsidiary of Yum! Brand. Taco Bell serves more than 2 billion customers each year. Mostly Taco Bell are owned and operated by independent franchisees. It operates in Canada, China, Chile, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Philippines, Poland, Russia, Saudi Arabia,

Cyprus, Singapore, Spain, South Korea, Greece, Mexico, Iceland etc.

India's first Taco Bell outlet was opened at Bengaluru in 2012.

Mall, Cinemas Chains and Parks Big Cinema


o Big Cinema is a division of Reliance Media Works Ltd. which was formerly known as Adlab Films Ltd. It is a theatre chain with over 500 screens in India, U.S.A., Malaysia and Netherlands. Big Cinemas operates in the United States and accounts for about one third of Hindi features box office collections. o The theatres of Big Cinema in India are at Hyderabad, Bhopal, Indore, Aurangabad, Nagpur, Mangalore, Allahabad, Kanpur, Mumbai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Pathankot, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Sri Ganganagar, Kolkata, Ahmedabad etc. and in United States at Atlanta, California, New Jersey etc.

Cinemax
o Cinemax is an Indian Cinema Chain with 138 screens across 39 locations in India including Nasik, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Allahabad, Indore, Bhopal, Mumbai and Kolkata. o It is also a chain of PVR Cinemas and located at Mumbai, Faridabad, Nagpur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Nasik, Siliguri, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Bengaluru, New Delhi, Pune, Raipur, Rajkot, Surat, Hyderabad, etc.

Fun Cinema
o Fun Cinemas is a cinema chain in India owned by Essel Group. It has a total 79 screens in 17 cities of India. Fun Cinema are located at Ambala, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Bathinda, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Coimbatore, New Delhi, Dibrugarh, Gwalior, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kota, Lucknow, Mumbai, Panipat, Ranchi only.

Inox
o INOX Leisure Ltd. is a subsidiary of Gujarat Fluoro Chemicals Ltd. It operates 45 multiplexes in 29 cities at Faridabad, Jaipur, Mumbai, Kanpur, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Vadodara, Pune, Darjeeling, Goa, Indore, Kota, Nagpur, Vijayawada, Bharuch, Raipur, Durgapur, Burdwan, Siliguri, Howrah, Vizag, Thane, Belgaum, Bhubaneswar and Udaipur. INOX is also in an alliance with Pantaloon Group.

P & M Mall
o P&M Mall is the first mall of Patna, Bihar which was opened in 2011. Bollywood Icon Mr. Prakash Jha is the owner of this mall. o It houses Departmental store, Multiplex, Entertainment Zone, Food court, Restaurants, Gym, Hotel, Conference & Banquet Facilities etc.

PVR
o PVR (Priya Village Roadshow) is a cinema chain in India. It is a joint venture of Priya Exhibitors Pvt. Ltd. and Village Roadshow Australia since 1995. o PVR was first started from Delhi. Currently PVR controls 351 screens in 85 locations across 37 cities of India.

Techno Park
o Techno Park is a technology park in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The park is dedicated to IT ventures. It is the first and largest technology park in India which was started in 1990. It has 600,000 sq.metre of built-up space and is home to over 280 companies. Techno Park is rd currently expanding its 3 phase. Park Centre, Pamba, Periyar, Nila, Gayatri, Tejaswini and Bhavani are names of the buildings. Most of the buildings are named after rivers of Kerala.

Amusement Parks of India Essel World


Essel World is an amusement park in Mumbai. It is spread over 64 acres of land and is largest theme part of India. It is developed and owned by Subhash Chandra of Essel Group since 1986. The Water Kingdom was added in 1998. It was first amusement parks in India. There are total 79 rides and slides in which 34 are major ones. There are also over 30000 species in their botanical gardens. The Essel World attracts almost 1.8 million visitors each year. Majority of students visit this park every year.

Fun City, Bareilly


Fun City and Boond Water Park is an amusement-cum-Water park located on Pilibhit bye pass road in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, opened in 2001. It is a biggest park in Uttar Pradesh with attractive rides, lush green lawns, video games parlor, food plaza and open amphitheater.

Metro Walk
Metro Walk Mall is located in Rohini, Delhi. It is open on all 6 days a week except Sunday. It has 20000 sq.metre shopping area which houses outlets of many national and international brands. The amusement park called Adventure Island contains 26 rides and attractions. A separate zone is called Planet pogo and houses a MAD Theatre and Pogo Plazas for children. The charges for Amusement park are INR 220 and INR 170 for adults and children respectively (Monday to Friday) and INR 350 and INR 270 on Saturdays. The park opens from 12.00 noon till 11.00 p.m.

MGM Dizzee World has a number of water reservoirs and slides for both adults and children in Chennai. It has also Swimming pools and an artificial rainfall shower and a water fall.

Nicco Park
Nicco Park is an amusement park located in Salt Lake City, Kolkata. It was opened in 1991. The park is spread over in 40 acres land. It has about 35 rides which include Toy Train, Magic Carpet, Water Chute, Water Coaster, Flying Saucer, Pirate Ship, River Caves, Cyclone and Moonraker. Its Giant Cyclone, about 750 m in length is Asia's largest ride. The Cable cars and Eiffel Tower provide panoramic views of the park from above. Natural attractions include a Rose Garden and a forty feet high waterfall. An aircraft MIG-21 from the Bagdogra Airbase is on display at this park as a gift from Eastern Air Command. A large Food Park selling North Indian, Bengali, South Indian and Chinese fast food and kiosks run by various restaurants of Kolkata. The park has received favorable response from the public and various corporate companies like Bata India, Britannia, ITC Limited, Tata Steel, Nestle, Dunlop, Union Carbide, Smith Kline Beecham, Duncans, ANZ Grindlays, etc. Cadburys have invested in the park by sponsoring rides and other attractions.

Sagar World
Sagar World Mumbai is the first spiritual theme park in the world. It has been built on a theme of animated mythological museum, themed rides, central park, temple city, amphitheater etc. The concept of Sagar world is Fun with Wisdom, education and entertainment which provide children to enjoy the various stories of Indian mythology by incorporating Television serials such as Ramayan, Shri Krishna, Alif Laila, Vikram Aur Betaal etc. Sagar arts team is planning to set up Hindu spiritual parks at Haridwar, Mathura, Varanasi and Delhi also.

Vismaya
Vismaya is an amusement-cumwater theme park located in Kannur, Kerala. It is run and developed by Malabar Tourism Development Co-operative Limited since 2008. The supply of water is being done by the rain water collected by the reservoir spread over two acres of land with a capacity of 50 million litres of water. Virtual waterfall and Laser show are the two main attractions of this amusement park. Virtual waterfall is a musical waterfall where the visitors dance under the water stream to the background music. It is open every day from 2.00 to 3.00 p.m. The main attraction of this park i.e. Laser show is staged in the evening.

Cedar Point Amusement Park, USA


Cedar Point is an Amusement park located on Lake Erie peninsula in Sandusky, Ohio, United States. It is spread in about 360 acres land and the worlds oldest amusement park which is owned and operated by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company. It has 72 rides including 15 roller coasters. The latest and 16th Roller Coaster GateKeeper is being started from 11th May, 2013. Cedar Point is opened on all days for public from mid-May (Saturday) till end of August each year. The timing during peak season is from 10.00 a.m. till 10.00 p.m. Thereafter till October end, it is open on weekends only. November to April each year it remains closed due to heavy winter and snow. The other attractions of Cedar Point are Soak City Water Park, White Sand Beach, Challenge Park and Resorts. Challenge Park is located between Cedar Point and Soak City. Its attractions require extra payment over the Cedar Point admission charge. Soak City is Cedar Point's water park. It is adjacent to Cedar Point and requires separate admission. The entry fee includes all rides free of cost. Presently each ticket costs US$ 44.99 through online booking and US$ 54.99 at the arrival of the gate. Fast Lane is Cedar Point's "two line" queue system which was introduced in 2012 at an extra payment of US$ 50 and US$ 65 for allowing them to bypass the normal waiting line and put the purchasers immediately at the front of the line of each ride. However, a limited number of passes are sold each day.

Since the public utility facility is available outside the park, once the guest enters the amusement park, if want to go out of the gate, he/she must get his/her hands stamped to re-enter the park. All

North - Eastern Area


Arunachal Pradesh is a place of worship where Lord Krishna married Rukmini. Parasuram Kund, great size trees of cane and bamboo are an attraction. Assam is gateway to Seven Sister States. Kaziranga and Manas National Parks are Unesco World heritage sites. The other parks and wildlife sanctuary are located in Assam. The largest river island Majuli, Siva Sagar and Tea Estates are also an attraction here. Manipur is a land of jewels. The charm of greenery with moderate climate makes the tourists happy. The only floating park Keibul National Park is situated here. Meghalaya is called The Scotland of East. It has thick forest area. It has two national parks and three wildlife sanctuaries. It also offers many tourism opportunities of mountaineering, rock climbing, trekking and hiking, water sports etc. o Cherrapunjee is another most popular tourist spot. Popular waterfalls are Elephant Falls, Shadthum Falls, Weinia falls, Bishop Falls, Nohkalikai Falls, Langshiang Falls and Sweet Falls. The hot springs of Jakrem has curative and medicinal properties. Mizoram is rich in bird diversity and wild elephants. Foreign tourists are required to obtain a permit for tourism in Mizoram. o Mizoram is a place where after every 48 years, Rat plague explodes and destroys entire village food supply. (We will discuss it in detail in forthcoming chapter in Short Notes). Nagalands major tourist attraction is footprints on a rock at the

highest point of Mata Yimkong. Longkhum celebrates most of the Ao tribe festivals in the first week of August. Sikkim was an independent kingdom till 1974. The nearest airport is Bagdogra. A new airport Pakyong is under construction. o China border is just 5 kms. o The popular sightseeing places include Baba Mandir, Nathula Pass, Rumtek Monastery, Handicraft Shops and Tsangpo Lake.

On the southern bank lies a temple of Eight headed goddess Mangal Chandi where a fair is held during the Basant Panchami every year. o Tirthamukh is also a place where every year on 14th January, Pous Sankranti Mela takes place. o Various species of migratory birds are seen during winter. It has a rich reservoir of natural and cultured fishes.

Eastern Area
Jharkhands main attraction is a Hindu temple of Chhinna-masta Goddess (Prachand Chandrika) located in Ramgarh. The headless goddess is standing on the body of Kamdeo and Rati in the lotus bed. The other temples are of Surya, Hanuman and Lord Shiva. o The tourists including foreign travelers also enjoy the hot water spring located here and take boat rides. Odisha is a place of interest in spirituality, religion, culture, art and natural beauty. o Odisha is famous for Jagannath Temple at Puri. Unesco World Heritage Site Konark Sun Temple and The Leaning Temple of Huma are major attractions. o Out of total four Chausathi Yogini temples in India, two are in Hirapur and Ranipur Jharial. Madhya Pradesh is home to cultural heritage of Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, Sikhism and Jainism. o Monuments, Temples, Forts, Palaces and Stupas are dotted all over the state. o Khajuraho temple is world famous for their erotic sculptures built during 9501050 AD and are a Unesco World Heritage Site.
