ASSIGNMENT DETAILS/ GRADING CRITERIA: See Instructor Announcements for details on class assignments set forth by your instructor. Online Discussion Forum Participation Online students must make regular threaded discussion entries throughout the week. Each week online students are required to answer one or more discussion questions for each class. The minimum requirement to receive full points on a discussion question is to post three (3) times (specific requirements will be defined by the course instructor). Responses to the discussion questions are viewed by the entire class to enhance learning. Discussion questions are assigned points and count significantly toward the final grade. Please note: Failing to respond to assigned discussion questions or answering discussion questions after the due date will affect the overall grade earned in the class. Turning in Assignments and E-Mail Procedures Sending assignments All assignments must be submitted by using the Dropbox tool on the course page, found directly under the posted assignment for each week unless otherwise stated. The course instructor will identify when submitting assignments to ensure each assignment has the following: Your last name, first name, class number, and name of assignment at the top right corner of the first page of the document. General E-Mail When sending emails please identify yourself fully by your name and class, not simply by an email address, in all emails sent to your instructor and/or other members of the class. It is expected that students follow rules of common courtesy in all email messages. If any email is deemed inappropriate or offensive, they will be forwarded to our online administrators and appropriate action will be taken, not excluding expulsion from the course. 2

academic standards. Cheating, falsifying work or plagiarism will not be tolerated. The penalties for these offenses are as follows: First offense: Student receives a "0" on the assignment or test. Second offense: Student receives an "F" for the course. Third offense: Student receives an "F" for the course and may be expelled from the college. Plagiarism - Use of another person's or a group's words or ideas without clearly acknowledging the source of that information, resulting in their false representation as one's own individual work. More specifically, to avoid plagiarizing, a student or other writer must give credit when he/she uses: Another person's idea, opinion, or theory Any facts, statistics, graphs, drawing - any piece of information that are not common knowledge Quotations of another person's actual spoken or written words Paraphrases of another person's spoken or written words Another person's data, solutions, or calculations without permission and/or recognition of the source, including the act of accessing another person's computerized files without authorization. Plagiarism may be either deliberate or unwitting; that is, it is the responsibility of a college student to know what constitutes plagiarism. Ignorance is not a legitimate defense against a charge of plagiarism. Copyright - Students must also be cognizant of and avoid copyright infringement. Copyright infringement is using someone elses ideas or material, which may include a song, a video, a movie clip, a piece of visual art, a photograph, and other creative works, without authorization or compensation, if compensation is appropriate. The use of copyright material without permission is against federal law, and penalties may include fines and/or imprisonment. CONTRACT FOR SUCCESS/REQUEST FOR INCOMPLETE: A grade of I is granted only when, due to extreme extenuating circumstances, a student is unable to complete the work outlined in the course. It is the responsibility of the student to request an incomplete from the instructor for the course in writing. A student is only eligible for an I if they have attended 75% of the course and completed all required assignments up to the point at which an incomplete is requested. In addition, a student cannot be on probation. If an I is granted, a Contract for Success must be filled out and signed by both the faculty member and the student. The student will have an additional 7 calendar days from the scheduled end of the course to submit all outstanding assignments and satisfy the Contract for Success. Failure to submit outstanding assignments by that deadline will result in the I being replaced by the grade earned in the course, which will include any missed work. WITHDRAWAL: A student is permitted to obtain a letter grade of W if they withdraw from a course prior to no greater than 50% of the scheduled classroom hours having elapsed and all assignments have been submitted up to the point of a request for a withdrawal being made. Failure to attend or complete any class from which the student has not been officially withdrawn through a written request process will result in the grade earned in the course being that which includes all work completed up to that point and any missed worked. W grades will be calculated as courses attempted for the purposes of determining Satisfactory Academic Progress and will not have any point value.
