All sl stitches are slipped purlwise, with yarn in back.

Base Triangles: Using the knitted cast-on, CO 104 sts. Row 1: (RS) k1, turn. Row 2 and all WS rows: Purl all sts worked on last row. Row 3: sl1, k1, turn. Row 5: sl1, k2, turn. Row 7: sl1, k3, turn. Row 9: sl1, k4, turn. Row 11: sl1, k5, turn. Row 13: sl1, k6, turn. Row 15: sl1, k7. DO NOT TURN. Work 12 more triangles in the same way, until all cast-on stitches have been worked.

Tier 1: Left side triangle: Row 1: (WS) k1, turn. Row 2: k1fb, turn. Row 3: k1, p2tog, turn. Row 4: k1, m1, k1, turn. Row 5: k1, p1, p2tog, turn. Row 6 and all RS rows: k to last stitch, m1, k1. Row 7: k1, p2, p2tog, turn. Row 9: k1, p3, p2tog, turn. Row 11: k1, p4, p2tog, turn. Row 13: k1, p5, p2tog, turn. Row 15: k1, p6, p2tog. DO NOT TURN. 8 sts now in left triangle. Go on to Tier 1 rectangles. Tier 1 rectangles: Row 1: (WS) Pick up and purl 8 sts along slipped selvedge of next triangle or rectangle. Sl last st picked up onto left needle and p2tog. Turn. Row 2: k8, turn. Row 3: sl1, p6, p2tog, turn. Rows 4-15: Repeat rows 2 and 3 six more times. At the end of row 15, do not turn. Work the next rectangle in the same way. After 12 rectangles have been worked, work a right side triangle. Right side triangle: Row 1: (WS) Pick up and purl 8 sts along slipped selvedge of next triangle or rectangle. Turn. Row 2 and all RS rows: k to end of sts in this section, turn. Row 3: sl1, p5, k2tog, turn. Row 5: sl1, p4, k2tog, turn. Row 7: sl1, p3, k2tog, turn. Row 9: sl1, p2, k2tog, turn. Row 11: sl1, p1, k2tog, turn. Row 13: sl1, k2tog, turn. Row 15: k2tog. The 1 remaining stitch will count as the first stitch of the first rectangle in Tier 2. Turn and transfer this stitch to the right needle. Tier 2: Tier 2 is made up of 13 rectangles, with no side triangles. Row 1: (RS) Pick up and knit 8 sts along slipped selvedge of next triangle or rectangle. (For the first rectangle of this tier only, the remaining st from the previous triangle counts as the first picked-up st.) Sl last stitch to left needle, ssk, turn. Row 2: p8, turn. Row 3: sl1, k6, ssk, turn. Rows 4-15: Repeat rows 2 and 3 six more times. At the end of row 15, do not turn. Work the next rectangle in the same way. 13 rectangles will be worked for this tier. Repeat Tiers 1 and 2 nine more times, then work Tier 1 once more.
