SOSE 2013

Message from the SOSE 2013 General Chairs

Welcome to the Seventh IEEE International Symposium on Service-Oriented Systems Engineering, SOSE 2013! The field of service-orientation today is well beyond web service basics like exchange formats or interaction standards. Engineering service-oriented systems has become a key topic as a research discipline but also has gained even more importance in the practice of analyzing, architecting, designing, implementing, testing, evaluating, maintaining and evolving real-life complex systems in the context of almost all organizations and industries. Thus, we see an evolution and integration of service-oriented architecture, service-oriented enterprise, service-oriented infrastructure and other enterprise services operations. More recently, the combination with the emerging field of Cloud Computing as Gao an important paradigm to implement and support services expands the scope of serviceoriented systems engineering, introduces new challenges and raises new questions both, for researchers and practitioners. The objective of SOSE 2013 is to bring together researchers, industrial practitioners, and developers to share their experiences in this still growing area of engineering service-oriented systems. Through co-located events on Cloud Engineering and Mobile Clouds and sharing invited talks and social events, we all get the extraordinary opportunity to discuss recent developments in closely related fields of emerging importance across community borders. The industry track ensures the inclusion of real-life hands-on experience with all these techniques in practice. So, we have an exciting combination of foundational and applied papers including industrial experiences and related case studies.

The symposium is made possible and successful by many peoples hard work. Our program co-chairs and program committees have put together an excellent program for this year. Many thanks to all of them: the SOSE 2013 program co-chairs, Gang Huang and Jorge L. Sanz, the SOSE steering committee chaired by Wei-Tek Tsai, the co-chairs of our Industry track, Songbin Wei and Chao-Li Tarngand, as well as the program chairs of the SOSE 2013 workshops, i.e., Scott Tilley, Xiaoying Bai and Hong Zhu for STITC 2013 and Yijie Wang and Paul Townend for iVCE'13. However, the entire event relies on the indispensable great support from all our colleagues having worked hard in the various program committees. We would like to express our appreciation to other key members for their hard work including: our publicity co-chairs Ying Li, Haiping Xu, Ching-Hsien Hsu, Hamid Mcheick and Hossein Siadat, our South America Liaison Julio Cesar Leite, Ying Zhang and Muhammad Younas for handling all the trouble to produce the proceedings, and Lu Liu and Andreas Schnberger for organizing tutorials and workshops, respectively. Such an event does not come into being without great organizational efforts. For that, we are grateful to Xiaoying Bai and Xiaoqin Guo as financial chairs, Yanchun Sun and Magdalini Eirinaki for handling registration issues, our web masters Xiaodong Zhang and Biao Li and, last but by no means least, our local chairs Susanne Glismann and Paul Nguyen and the IEEE SOSE 2013 secretary, Jing Guan.
