Pack mentioned something in his Open Letter to all WCG Splinters, that, well I'll just quote it... "We pray diligently that more will follow Christs command to anoint their eyes and join HIS Church." http://rcg.org/sep/rcg_fruits_2013.html Let me call to rememberance what The True Church taught, although the RCG claims "...we did not break the grand pattern set by Mr. Armstrongany of it!" Take a look at the following
Herbert W. Armstrong Plain Truth Sbscriber Letter March 10,1965 Herbert W. Armstrong
"Nowhere in the New Testament do we find that Jesus, or the Apostles, ever coaxed, urged or cajoled anyone into "joining" the Church. They merely proclaimed the TRUTH -- the GOOD NEWS -- of the Kingdom of God. No one was urged to "join." In fact, according to the Bible, one CANNOT join God's true Church. If we have not received the GIFT of God's Spirit, "we are none of His" (Rom. 8:9). The proclaiming of the Gospel by Jesus and by His Apostles was merely EDUCATIONAL -- proclaiming God's TRUTH -leaving all hearers free to make their own decision. We follow their example. No one is ever asked to join. No one is ever urged or pleaded with to "give their heart to the Lord," in the way many Churches do. We are not proselyters. We make no effort to take members away from other Churches."
12:13). Not by joining it. Not by some preacher writing out a membership certificate! Not by "casting your lot," or "Taking your stand." And note it! There is but just the ONE BODY!"
the vast majority in the Church. He succeeded in turning this majority into a growing false and counterfeit church."
"So note it well! One cannot enter the true Church by putting himself in-by "joining. One may join a social club, a sports team, or a secular group-but NOT the Church of God. Incidentally, is it not significant that so many of this world's "churches" have become, virtually, just social clubs?... " "...And thus it is that the CHURCH is composed of those who are the children of God. That is why the CHURCH is the Church of GOD, even as the Old Testament Church was called "the congregation of Israel"-the human children of Israel. That is why, also, one CANNOT PUT HIMSELF into the Church by "deciding to JOIN." When he becomes a son of GOD, by having and being led by the Spirit of God (Rom. 8:14), then God has PUT HIM INTO the Church by begetting him as a son of God. "Joining" a group that calls itself a church-having one's name on the membership roll of some group calling itself a church-does not make one in true fact a member of THE Church Jesus founded. Here is positive proof: "But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his" (Romans 8:9)." "Is it possible that one who has joined a sect, church, or denomination NOT doing God's Work, might be truly converted, and led by God's Spirit in him? The answer is YES-I have known of a few. But in every case, either they came INTO the organized spiritual organism Christ is using in the real Work of God-or, when their eyes were opened to further light and truth, they rejected it and LOST the Spirit of God. And this was amply demonstrated by the fruits."
Just What Is a CO-WORKER? by Herbert W. Armstrong page 1 Good News August 1982
"And let me first say that the Worldwide Church of God is nondenominational and
nonproselyting. It does not solicit or urge people to become members, or to join. In fact, one cannot "join" this Church. One enters only by being baptized by the Holy Spirit into this, God's Church. Of course we joyfully welcome all whom God through Christ baptizes into His Church."
Why Churches Are Divided Plain Truth March 1982 Herbert W. Armstrong
"Some, not realizing one of God's own called and consecrated ministers could call and explain and answer questions, have JOINED one of the churches of this world. You cannot JOIN the true Church of God-the Almighty GOD puts you in."
The Ambassador College Bible Correspondence Course Lesson 19, 1983 WHAT and WHY the CHURCH?
"The members of God's Church do not merely decide that they would like to "join" His Church, decide what they would like to believe, and begin attending services. It is God who calls an individual and grants repentance (John 6:44; Rom. 2:4), and new members are added to the Church of God only upon repentance, baptism and receipt of God's Holy
Spirit (Acts 2:38, 47; I Cor. 12:13). The repentant believer becomes a begotten child of God when he receives the gift of the Holy Spirit. And he believes the doctrines Jesus has put into His Church."
Prove All Things: What and Why the Church? By Bernard W. Schnippert Good News May 1985
"Most people, for example, consider a church to be a building, or at least those persons who have "joined" a certain organization by registering on its official rolls. Some think the purpose of a church is merely to perpetuate itself and do little more than provide social events for its members. Others take an almost opposite approach and become virtually obnoxious by trying to proselytize and force people to believe as they do and join with them."
Why Some Fall Away By Leroy Neff Good news Jan 1961
"You Can't "Join" God's Church We do not "join" the body of Christ. God makes us a part of it through His Holy Spirit after COMPLETE REPENTANCE, BAPTISM, and a total change of attitude. We remain in the church ONLY by CONTINUING in this right attitude and by OVERCOMING through prayer and faith and obedience. We do not become a part of the body of Christ by telling our friends or neighbors that I
"belong to the Radio Church of God." Nor do we become a part of that true body of believers by just signing a statement. We do not become a part of that TRUE BODY BY BAPTISM ALONE. It requires complete repentance and submission to God and faith toward Jesus Christ before we are put into the true Church of God. Let us not deceive ourselves. We may fool some people, but we cannot fool God. HE IS OUR JUDGE. Don't deceive yourself. It is time to examine yourself to determine whether or not you are in the faith. Whether or not you are truly a part of God's Church in this climactic endtime. The time is fast approaching when it will be too late for change and correction, too late to go to the place of safety that God is preparing for His people. Some of you are sinning and know it. You have procrastinated and delayed obeying God. God is merciful, kind, loving, patient. But there always comes a time when God's patience ends. Then will be the time of action. He may permit you to continue in sin for a season, but if you do not repent and change, He will soon cut you off IN YOUR SINS. Others of you are sinning and cannot see your sin. Why? Because you are not continually looking into God's Word for correction. Sin is the transgression of the law. It defines what sin is. The Word of God is a spiritual mirror. Look into that spiritual mirror to see your sin."
One cannot put himself into the Church by "deciding to join." When he becomes a son of God, by having and being led by the Holy Spirit of God (Rom. 8:14), then God has put him into the Church. "Joining" a group that calls itself a church having one's name on the membership roll of some group calling itself a church does not make one in true fact a member of the Church Jesus founded. Here is positive proof: "But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his" (Rom. 8:9). It is the living Christ who puts members into His Church and it is done by the Holy Spirit. Notice, now, the conditions for receiving God's Spirit Acts 2:38: "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." This is speaking of being baptized in water. (Write for our free booklet titled All About Water Baptism.) The Holy Spirit is given by the laying on of hands following baptism (Acts 19:5, 6). A person who receives the Holy Spirit is "begotten" or conceived of God. Following a life of developing and overcoming, the Christian is "born" into the Family of God at the resurrection and return of Christ (I Cor. 15:50-54; I Thess. 4:13-17; Rev. 20:4-6; Phil. 3:20-21; I John 3:1-2; II Tim. 4:8). That body of believers, having the Holy Spirit of God, constitutes the Church of God. But does this mean that the Church has no organization?" "...Only God can place one into the body of Christ. The true Church is not something you may "join" it is something you are immersed into by the Spirit of the living God. But, if God is leading you by His Spirit to His truth, it is up to you as an individual to seek Him."
the church that is in their house." Colossians 4:15 refers to a congregation that met in the home of Nymphas in or near Laodicea. Philemon also had a church meeting in his home (Philemon 2). In the book of Acts, Luke referred to the Church in the days following Pentecost, 31 A.D. "And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple.... Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved" (Acts 2:46-47). The Church grows as Christ adds individuals to it; and it is wholly composed of those whom He has called out of the world those who are set apart by Him to be a part of His body. Paul wrote of Christ, "And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, and the firstborn from the dead ..." (Col. 1:18). In verse 24 Paul referred to himself, "Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church." Paul was willing to suffer for the Church the body of Christ those who had repented and had been converted by God. How plain! The Church is not the building. It's not something one can go to or join! It is the sum total of all true Christians who have been begotten by the Holy Spirit, who have been called out by God, and have thus become part of the body of Christ the true Church of God!"
Do You Compromise with Truth? By Roderick Meredith Plain Truth Dec 1964
"So it is with many readers of The PLAIN TRUTH. They see God teaches a message of
literal obedience. They see that it involves unspectacular and unpopular activities like telling the TRUTH in all business and personal dealings, actually coming OUT of this vain, confused world and its mixed-up society, ceasing to live in adultery, keeping holy the days God made holy. Their human nature REBELS! They don't want to REPENT of their REAL SINS! How much easier it would be to shake the preacher's hand and "give their heart to the Lord." How much easier to join a worldly "social club" that masquerades under the name of a "church.""
Should You ASSEMBLE Without a Minister? By Herman Hoeh Good News Oct 1957
"To many people, a local congregation becomes a place of SOCIAL rather than SPIRITUAL fellowship. People join themselves together, instead of BEING JOINED TO CHRIST. In John 15:5, Jesus said: "I am the vine, ye are the branches." What would you think if the branches would say to themselves, let us bundle ourselves together?"
ACBC Lesson 52 - The Book and the church they couldn't destroy
"In the history of God's Church it has been repeatedly true that "many shall cleave to them with flatteries" (Dan. 11:34). The Thyatira Era was no exception. Partly because MANY were dissatisfied with the degradation and oppression of the established church, a large number of friends and others who sympathized with God's true people were found in every country where God's people went. But THEY were not the Church, even though the world regarded them all as Waldenses! Most of them were, at best, only co-workers -- perhaps sincere, but unconverted -- who had never given themselves completely and unreservedly to God. Now notice what this situation led to. It "prepared the way for the transformation of his (Waldo's) following (those who cleaved with fatteries) into a sect or antichurch, a tendency already present in 1184. Under the pressure of persecution even the 'friends' felt themselves sectaries, and became increasingly merged with the main body (or better said, the small flock) of Waldenses" (from the Schaff-Herzog RELIGIOUS ENCYCLOPEDIA, article "Waldenses"). They then began to join THEMSELVES together, rather than being all united through the Holy Spirit. These people were not themselves the True Church, though the True Church was AMONG them. That is why they began so soon to compromise with error, and to commit "spiritual fornication.""
Now what joins the many branches of that vine to one another? When people meet on their own human-appointed day, trying to join themselves together in a church group, Christ is not present with them in that fellowship. He never put His presence in that day! They are like a lot of grape branches, cut off from the vine, trying to join themselves together!"
Armstrong Plain Truth Subscriber Letter May 27, 1969 Herbert W. Armstrong
"There are so many of these "come-on" schemes to get your money that I know it seems hard to realize that when we offer you something of real value WITHOUT ANY CHARGE -- and tell you we have nothing to sell -- you are not going to be asked to buy anything, or join anything -- it is THE TRUTH, and there are no tricks or deceptions or gimmicks! YOU HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ANY OPERATION LIKE OURS! It is utterly unique. And isn't it, after all, a refreshing experience to find something of vital value, with no such come-ons -- something 100% aboveboard, honest and sincere?"
WHY YOU NEED TO CHANGE By Roderick Meredith Tomorrow's World Feb 1971
"For God's true Church cannot be "joined." It is composed of those who have been called OUT of this "untoward generation" by God Himself to receive His Spirit, to understand His prophecies now rapidly being fulfilled, and to qualify for a position in His divine Government soon to be set up on this war-torn, sin-sick earth the glorious Kingdom of God!"
teachings are spiritual blockbusters far too revolutionary for those who join denominations like social clubs to improve their civic status."
abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing" (John 15:1-5). The newly begotten child of God becomes directly joined to Christ. He is the Vine supplying the life-giving sap from the roots which produces the fruit on the branches. The branches, or the individual members of the Church, are joined only through the vine. If any member is not truly in Christ, and Christ living in Him, then he is not a member of the true Church. "That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you" wrote John, "that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ" (I John 1:3). The true fellowship of one member of the Church to another is in and through the Father and the Son. Any worldly organization of men, banding themselves together in their own fellowship, is just like a group of branches lying in a pile. Not joined to a productive, lifegiving vine, they are unproductive; they are lifeless. Do you see? The name of the true Church of God is a vitally important proof of the Church. It is not to be taken lightly; it has real meaning. God names things for what they are."
NOTICE!! You cannot JOIN GOD'S CHURCH! Yet David C. Pack continues to Preach This! "It is absolutely critical to see that, in time, all those who love the full truth those who are willing to anoint their eyesmust join one organizationThe Restored Church of God!" http://rcg.org/sep/books/wtrcog.html Also, "In Gods Church, we do not have as a goal to get big! This is no longer Philadelphias time! Those of Philadelphian attitude must expect to be outnumbered. However, when all those with Gods Spirit have been joined to us, we will likely become the largest groupand maybe by far." http://rcg.org/sep/books/wtrcog.html Again, "Many waited to see our fruit before joining us. Be certain your definition of fruit does not include size. While numbers are irrelevant to your decision, one look at just our websites reveals an explosion of fruitthat we are already doing an immense work that towers over organizations much larger, older and wealthier than we. Our websites describe the who, what, where, when, why and how of Gods Church. Also, consider that if everyone waited to see appear whatever is their definition of fruits, for months or even years, no one would have come to help produce the fruit othersand possibly you want to evaluate today. So, there are two types of people who will join us. In the end, both belong. First: Those who will come through fire, hail, wind and storm to be at
the right placeas long as they know it is right. Size means nothing to them! Second: The many additional people who must see many others do this before they will. They will want to see a certain amount of size before coming. Right or wrong, this is historically the way of human nature. Of course, we are well into this second phase, with most still recognizing and accepting they are joining a group still for a while smaller than the biggest splinters." http://rcg.org/sep/books/wtrcog.html again further down, "A word to all the unaffiliatedthose who chose to stay home: Many of you may have recognized very early that heresies or improper conduct were condoned by every corporate organization that left the WCG. You chose not to join any of them (or did and then felt compelled to leave), but perhaps tried to hold firm, either on your own or in small, loose groups. Many of you have been abused, as a direct result of the politics in the WCG, but also later in other groups. You are urged to carefully consider what God is doing in His ChurchThe Restored Church of God! Do not forget this vital passage: And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as you see the day approaching (Heb. 10:24-25)." http://rcg.org/sep/books/wtrcog.html In Section 2 it states "By now, you know we are not just another splinter. These questions arise: Who should join The Restored Church of God? What does membership in Restored mean? What should you expect if you come with us?" It seems this is a social club. POINT after POINT, David C. Pack says "JOIN God's Church", "Join the RCG"(that is NOT God's Church!) As you can see it is CONTRARY to what the Church taught, AND what the BIBLE teaches! I also noticed this attitude throughout his writings, the "GET" attitude. "Though we do not require you to run a gauntlet of extensive counseling to join us, we do want you sure of your decisionso that we both know what we are getting."(same page as above) "I must be blunt. If you are joining Restored, it must be because you believe this is Gods Churchwhere His government, truth and Work reside." http://rcg.org/sep/books/wtrcog.html AGAIN you cannot JOIN GOD'S CHURCH!!! It is not an organization of MEN!
THIS REMINDS ME of 2 Timothy 3. This attitude is THROUGHOUT David C. Pack, and HIS Church. BEWARE unless we fall into such traps, and/or become such a person. Read: 2Ti 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2Ti 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 2Ti 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 2Ti 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness(THE FORM OF GOD'S GOVERNMENT?), but denying the power thereof: from such turn away(HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THEM). 2Ti 3:6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, 2Ti 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. (INTELECTUALLS, Talk a big talk, write MANY books) 2Ti 3:8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. 2Ti 3:9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.
