First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Contemporary Worship Service Easter Sunday March 31, 2013 11:10am
The Congregation Gathers Worship begins in darkness and silence. Then, watch as the front of the sanctuary is restored as we hear the announcement of the resurrection. Sharing of the Word
As a part our service today, we will share stories and read scripture. The children will participate in resurrecting the Alleluia. Todays message from Owen Cayton is Stepping Into the Light based on Luke 24:1-12. We will also witness and celebrate todays baptisms of Michelle McDaniel, Alexia Matthews, Abigail Matthews, and Claire Schaecher. Also, Stacy Gunkel will be confirmed today.

Joys, Concerns and Pastoral Prayer

Gods heart is always open to Gods people and so we are called together to lift celebrations and concerns in prayer. God joins us in our deepest moments of pain and our greatest moments of joy...and everything in between. We take this time to pray for ourselves, the church, and the world in word and song.

The Great Thanksgiving

The Table of God is a celebration of gifts; our gifts and Gods gifts. During the song, hold up high your gifts of food for the food panty and the children will gather them. Deacons will pass baskets to receive your financial gifts and offerings. All of these gifts will be brought forward and placed on the table, along with the bread and cup and the childrens feast. After the Prayer of Thanksgiving, everyone is invited to come forward to receive Gods gifts in communion. As you receive communion, you are invited to gather around the outside of the sanctuary where we all stand together and sing John 3:16. If you are not comfortable with your children taking communion prior to baptism, they are invited to receive the childrens feast at the front of the sanctuary at the same time.

Easter Sunday: For Parents of Children As you gather with your children and the rest of the congregation, you might remind them where the story ended last week (Luke 23:44-56). Jesus was taken down from the cross and buried in a tomb. The women saw where Jesus was buried. You might also share with them that Easter Sunday begins in the graveyard. The women have gone to finish taking care of Jesus body. They have returned with the news that Jesus body is gone and have invited us to come and see. As we see what they have observed: See the place where he was laid, See his grave clothes our mourning is turned to praise. The tomb is empty. The alleluias that have been silent through Lent will again cross our lips. It is our greatest desire that everyone in attendance experience a deeper understanding of the significance of Easter. Sometimes our children grasp these simple truths in a better way than we do. It is a great joy to have them included in our worship services. We encourage you to not only teach them about these important traditions but learn from them as well. Watch their expressions and reactions to the service. As you help guide them, allow them also to guide you and together we can experience the resurrection of Christ as people of God with a mission to the whole world.

It is the desire of our elders to be available for spiritual care. If you have a need with which the elders may be of assistance, please complete this card, tear it out, and place it in the provided box in the Narthex.

The Congregation Scatters to Serve

At the close of worship, all are invited to commit or recommit ourselves to following Jesus. We are sent forth into the world in song, charged to be disciples in our daily lives.
