The Pioneer Woman, Jim Thorpe's home and the Civil War's Honey Springs Battlefield are only a few of the more than two dozen historic Oklahoma locations covered under a new discount for AARP members, AARP Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Historical Soci-
honoring his father, famed Oklahoma musician Roger Miller. "We are excited to partner with the Oklahoma Historical Society to bring this money-saving option to AARP members," said Lyons. 'This type of program highlights how AARP works to identify interesting and entertaining opportunities and discounts for our members and their families."
Dog daze
By Norman McGuire and Oscar March 13 Had a talk with Oscar this morning. I asked him
if it got cold last night and he looked at the sky then at me. I told him it was not my fault that the weather had got cold. I dont think he cared what I thought. I told him that if he didnt like the weather he could take it up with GOD. He looked at me and howeled. Blew air
theu his lips snorted and fell over on my feet. I wish he wouldnt do that as he weaighs a ton. I told him if he was so inclined to not talk with me this morning I was going back into the house. He rolled over on his back and waved his fat little legs at me. I came in and got a cup of coffee and went and watched him thru the window. He was in the front of the house by now setting down. Now you might have a hard time believing this but soon he put out his front paws and I think that he was praying. Now I dont know what dogs pray for but I bet he was talking about the weather. Weather can be fickle. I never learned to talk with the weather. I ask for sun and get rain. I ask for a cool breeze on a summer day and get a blast furnice of wind. I ask for rain and get a drought. Weather has a mind of its own and dont listen to me and I dont think it will listen to Oscar....but then I have been wrong before. March 16 I am kinda put out this morning. Oscar was shot. I first thought he had been in a fight but I could only find one puncture mark. I looked at it real close and that is when I saw the pellet. He had been shot in the side with a pellet gun. It was in pretty deep and it was a fine ol'time getting it out. Oscar felt I am sure by the time it was all over
that he would just have rather kept his pellet then to have me remove it. I held him down and managed to get it out. I cleaned the wound and put some antibiotc ointment on it. I shaved the hair around the wound then put a bandage on it. He seemed pleased to have the bandage as the other dogs out here didnt have one and about his brush with death. I checked around and found out it was a six year old kid that had done it. I talked with his dad about his kid going on hunting expediations and that Oscar was not a lion ,tiger or bear oh my. He said he would take care of it and when I left the dad and kid were haveing a long talk with a small keen switch doing the talking. What is it with people that they give a kid a gun out here then turn them soose. It is the same way in the summer time. People are always bringing a pet to the lake and then looseing them. Before the summer is half over I end up feeding a pack of dogs that I dont even owen. Oh well guess that is my lot in life....to tell the truth it is ok with me. March 16 I love kids. My wife says I am still one and keeps hopeing I will grow up some day. I asked her why should I grow up? She said well at least act your age. I told her I was acteing my age then I pouted. Oh well back to the
story. I was watching as the church buss drove up and picked up a heard of kids then set off down the road. I could hear laughter and joy as they drove off. Made my heart feel good to know that there is still some laughter in the world that is not fake but real. I love to watch a kid when I teach them something. They get this look of wonder in there eyes and you can tell that they are thinking it thru. I told Oscar about it and how I felt. He set and watched the buss -drove away then looked at me and
howled. I asked him why he was howeling now and he just looked at me. I then got on the ground and the two of us had a good long wrestling match with him winning as he always does. Soon I got tired of it and got up to come into the house. I walked in with Oscar on my heels and my wife said see your just a big kid. How many other men do you see playing with there dogs like that? I told her I didnt care what other people did that I played with Oscar because we both liked it and it was fun.
