Grisel Rodriguez English 114B Professor Wingate March 15, 2013 The In-Between In our English class we were all asked to answer a question: What method is better when writing an essay? Is using a blog better than using the traditional method? The traditional method being we would type our essay and turn it in during class. Last semester we used that process. We would type our essays, revise them in class using Peer Workshops, then turn in our Final copy. This semester we are using a blog website, Weebly. With that said, my answer to that question is that I am in between. I think that using Weebly and using the traditional method is the same thing. We use the same process to get to our Final copy. When we write an essay we have a process to follow. First, we write down our thoughts and ideas, we type our essay, revise it, and turn in a final. When using Weebly we do the same thing but instead of getting our peers comments in person, we get them online. We receive the same responses just in a blog form. Our professor reads our draft and gives us her same feedback as well. We have all written different types of essays and there is always a purpose. We have a question to answer or a topic to write freely about. Writing on a blog does not change that, we still have a question to answer and we still have to write about just that. Writing on a blog rather than typing it does not change the fact that we have a certain assignment to stick to and complete.

Spelling and grammar are two words that are tossed around in an English class of any type at all times. People may assume that since we are not using the traditional way to write our essays that we are forgetting about spelling and grammar. That is not true. We know that even though we are using a blog we still have to follow the same rules that we would follow when using the traditional method. Something else that we have to follow even when using a blog is the length. We have a certain amount of words or pages that we complete. When using Weebly we can still use Word we just copy and paste our work onto the blog so we know that it is the right amount. Using Weebly and the traditional method may have its differences but they are very limited. I have experience with both; I have had time to use each method for two semesters so I know them pretty well. I think that when using Weebly we are still doing the same amount of work with the same amount of rules. The only difference, we do not hit the print button.
