com RUTLAND COUNTY GOP ANNOUNCES NEW LEADERSHIP: TERRY BURKE, CHAIR MARK CANDON, VICE CHAIR Rutland, VT The Rutland County GOP committee convened on March 25th at the Rutland Free Library to thank former chair Rob Towle of Rutland for his service and elect a new chair and vice chair. The search committee led by Representative Robert Helm (Rutland-3) nominated Terry Burke for Chair and Mark Candon for Vice Chair. Terry Burke was elected Rutland County Chair unanimously by the committee. In accepting the position Burke stated: "By applying the state motto of "Freedom and Unity", while supporting our Vermont Republican Platform; I believe we can benefit our communities, families, and posterity in practical and lasting ways." Originally from Central New York State, Terry has lived in Vermont for the past 25 years. She is a graduate of Cornell University in the area of Plant Sciences and is interested in promoting truthful research. Married to Kevin Burke for 33 years, they have home-educated 7 children. As an active member of the Castleton Republican committee for many years, Terry has helped promote Republican candidates and encouraged others to take an active role as citizens. She has been the editor of the Castleton Republican newsletter for 3 years. Rutlands Mark Candon was elected Rutland County Vice Chair, unanimously. Mark Candon, a Proctor native, has managed the Rutland investment firm of Moors & Cabot since 1995. He is a graduate of Brown University and served two terms in the Vermont House in the early 1980s. He and his wife, Debbie Candon, have raised three children and lived in Rutland City since 1991. He was Republican candidate for U.S. Congress in 1998, Vermont delegate to the 2012 Republican National Convention, and has chaired Rutland GOPAC supporting local candidates for many years. He has been a trustee at Vermont Academy since 1994, served on many other local boards, and is a member of the finance committee at Christ the King Church. In accepting the Vice Chair position Mark stated: "Government spending and debt are out of control and damaging the freedoms self-reliant Vermonters have always assumed would prevail. It's time for the political class to absorb the economic realities the private sector has faced for years. We can stay smart and friendly and we can do it." Terry Burke and Mark Candon bring many skills and leadership experience to the committee. They are sure to continue to expand upon Republican success in Rutland County and began to work on outreach and other initiatives immediately following their appointments on Monday.
