Clones Bonus Motifs

These two bonus motifs are part of the Clones Lace Shawlette by Mire Treanor. Getting Started
Finished Size Shamrock: 2" across; clematis: 3" across. Yarn Size 20 or 10 crochet thread. Hook Size 1 mm or 1.5 mm steel hook. Gauge is not critical for this pattern.

Stitch Guide
Buttony:
Step 1: Wrap thread around the end of a 4 mm crochet hook 1618 times. Remove ring from hook. Step 2: Holding strands of ring securely, work 1820 sc into ring to cover strands completely, sl st in first sc to join. Fasten off. Make a packing cord (pc): Measure a length of thread from your elbow to your wrist and back again, and cut. Fold thread in half. With working thread on hook, sl st in the fold of the pc. Carry pc along work, working over it where indicated. You may need to join more pc to complete work, but pc is best kept in shorter lengths for easy handling.

Make a pc (see Stitch Guide). Work 20 sc over pc, sl st in first sc to form ring. Drop pc. Rnd 1: [Ch 4, sk next sc, sl st in next sc] around10 ch-4 sps. Rnd 2: Sl st in first ch-4 sp, [ch 4, sl st in next ch-4 sp] 4 times, sl st in next sl st, sl st in center ring, sl st in next ch-4 sp, [ch 4, sl st in next ch-4 sp] 4 times, sl st in next sl st, sl st in center ring8 ch-4 sps. Rnd 3: Ch 1, sl st in next ch-4 sp, pick up pc, 4 sc in first ch-4 sp, 3 sc in each of next 2 ch-4 sps, 4 sc in next ch-4 sp, sl st in next sl st, sl st in ring, 4 sc in next ch-4 sp, 3 sc in each of next 2 ch-4 sps, 4 sc in last ch-4 sp, sl st in first sl st to join. Do not fasten off. Rep shamrock leaf 2 times. Join leaves tog at base with sl st. Fasten off. Weave in ends. Make a buttony (see Stitch Guide) and join it to center of shamrock with sl sts.

Center:
Make a pc. Work 15 sc over pc, sl st in first sc to form ring. Drop pc. Rnd 1: [Ch 5, sl st in next sc] around15 ch-5 sps. Rnd 2: Working behind chsps of Rnd 1, [ch 4, sk 2 sc from foundation rnd, sl st around back post of next sc] 5 times.

Edging:

Petal:

Join pc. Working over pc, [2 sc in next ch-sp] up edge of next petal to top ch-sp. In top ch-5 sp, work (3 sc, ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from hook, 3 sc). Pull pc to tighten edge. Cont to work over pc, [2 sc in next ch-sp] down other edge of petal. Pull pc again to shape edge. Rep for each petal around. Cut pc and fasten off. Weave in ends. k

Rows 810: Ch 2, sl st in first ch-4 sp, [ch 4, sl st in next ch-4 sp] across, turn2 ch-4 sps at end of Row 10. Row 11: (RS) Ch 2, sl st in first ch-4 sp, ch 5, sl st in last ch-4 sp. Working down side edge of petal, [ch-2, sl st in next ch-sp] to base. Rep petal instructions in each ch-sp around center of flower5 petals. Buttony
