Dashing Beaded Belt

This is a one-skein quick project designed to add a little flair to an outfit. If you need something to wrap around an oversized shirt or add a little bit of bling to a pair of jeans, this is it! By nature, the center garter stitches of this design will stretch, however the outer i-cord edging prevents too much over-stretching. The beauty of a project like this is that you can try it on as you go, stretching it gently, then bind off when it fits. The DRings are available at fabric stores, and the beads, if unavailable locally, can be purchased online (source listed below). The sample used 42 beads and measures 35" (89 cm) from the cast on edge to the edge of the Drings.

SPECIAL TECHNIQUES
ADDING BEADS
To add bead, slip bead onto steel crochet hook, hook next st on left needle and slip bead onto st, then slip st as if to purl onto right needle.

Note: The first 3 bead rows are worked on the wrong side of the belt so that when the belt is fastened through the D-rings, the right side of the bead rows will show.

Belt
Cast on 11 sts Rows 1-9: K8, WYF slip 3. Row 10 (Bead row Wrong side): K4, (add bead, K1) twice, WYF slip 3. Rows 11-23: K8, WYF slip 3. Rows 24-38: Repeat Rows 10-23 once, then repeat Row 10 once more. Rows 39-52: K8, WYF slip 3. Row 53 (Bead row Right side): K4, (add bead, K1) twice, WYF slip 3. Rows 54-68: K8, WYF slip 3. Repeat Rows 53-68 until belt measures 21/4" (5.5 cm) less than desired finished length, ending by working Row 53 and remembering that the finished measurement when fastened should be calculated from the center point between the third and fourth bead rows where the belt folds back through the D-Rings. Last 5 rows: K8, WYF slip 3. Bind off as follows: With larger crochet hook, insert hook from left to right through first st on needle dropping st off needle, then single crochet through both D-Rings, insert hook through next st on needle from left to right and through both D-Rings and work single crochet; repeat from across; slip st in side of belt and finish off.
