METRO RAIL SYSTEMS

L&T has contributed significantly to the successful implementation of Phase-I of Delhi Metro project by DMRC. As a consortium partner, L&T executed a major contract for construction of underground corridor from Kashmere Gate to Central Secretariat. This involved all types of underground construction methods, viz., cut & cover construction, NATM technique and tunnel boring technology. L&T is also involved in construction of an underground corridor between Greenpark and Saket in Phase-2 of Delhi Metro Project. MONO RAIL SYSTEMS

A consortium led by L&T with Scomi Engineering Bhd, Malaysia is executing the straddle type monorail system in Mumbai. This Rs. 24.6 billion (Rs. 2460 crore) project is the country's first Monorail System being set up for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority. This is a modern urban transport system where the cars move on a single beam in an elevated corridor. The design makes it possible to execute the project on a fast-track as it requires a small foot-print and facilitates implementation with minimal demolition of structures. Other advantages include greater reliability, high manoeuverability, lower cost and an eco-friendly design. These factors make Monorails an attractive option for Mumbai where land is a scarce resource. The monorail is a quiet system with sleek exteriors, and airconditioned cars, adding to commuter comfort. The project involves designing, constructing, installation, testing; commissioning and integrated testing including train trail with initial Operation & Maintenance from Gadge Maharaj Chowk (Jacob

Circle) to Wadala (approx. 11 kms) and Wadala to Chembur via Mahul (approx 9 km) corridor on a Lump Sum Turnkey (LSTK) basis. The Monorail will have 18 stations enroute. The project is to be completed in a tight schedule of 30 months. Please click here to view the route map. STATIONS & BUILDINGS L&T constructed the largest underground railway station at Rajiv Chowk for Delhi Metro. In addition, L&T executed Chawri Bazaar station by Complex NATM technology under very adverse site conditions. L&T has constructed a workshop cum maintenance depot at Najafgarh, New Delhi for DMRC.
