Schulz Receives AARP Oklahoma 2012 Legislative Leadership Award

care bills supported by AARP Oklahoma to a successful vote in the Senate. One of these measures, House Bill 2582, was heard in the waning hours of session and would not have received a final vote were it not for Senator Schulz's efforts to secure final passage. That measure, ultimately signed into law by Gov. Mary Fallin, requires that future long-term care employees undergo a nationwide, fingerprintbased background check before being granted direct access to residents of Oklahoma long-term care facilities. "Senator Schulz understands the needs of Oklahoma seniors, and he works hard to ensure those needs are met," said AARP Oklahoma State President Marjorie Lyons. "We are grateful for his consistent and bold leadership on the issues that matter most to older Oklahomans and their families." Six of Senator Schulz's constituents, all of whom are members of the AARP Oklahoma Custer County Chapter, were on hand for the award presentation. "It is an honor to be recognized by AARP Oklahoma," said Schulz, R-Altus. "I'm grateful for their efforts on behalf of the aging population in my district and the state."

AARP Oklahoma recently recognized Senator Mike Schulz with an award for his efforts on behalf of older Oklahomans during the 2012 Legislative Session. AARP Oklahoma presented Schulz with the 2012 Legislative Leadership Award in the Senator's Oklahoma City office following the group's annual legislative breakfast at the Capitol. AARP officials selected Schulz for the award for his work on numerous bills that were crucial to the health, safety and wellbeing of Oklahoma seniors during the 2012 session.
