INTRODUCTION: This course introduces the elements of testing and assessment essential to effective teaching. Educational assessment plays a pivotal role in the instructional process and that its effectiveness depends on the teacher's ability to construct and/or select, and manage valid assessment instruments. This course will cover the development, administration and marking of assessment tasks and tests, as well as approaches to summarizing and reporting student achievement.

COURSE OBJECTIVES: 1. 2. 3. 4. To enable learners understand the elements of educational assessment that are essential for effective teaching. To enable learners to construct and/or select and manage valid assessment instruments. To enable learners manage and implement educational assessment at the school level. To enable learners identify and analyse issues pertaining to educational assessment.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: Upon successful completion of the course, the student should be able to: 1. describe and explain the basic elements of assessments in the classroom context 2. demonstrate in practice a working knowledge of how to develop, score, grade, analyse, interpret and provide feedback on classroom assessment as part of teaching-learning process 3. understand and explain the importance of assessment for effective use in the teaching learning context. 4. practice the ethical and professional responsibilities in managing and implementing educational assessment 5. cultivate and nurture the interest on educational assessment as lifelong learning endeavour

COURSE POLICY/ATTENDANCE POLICY Students are required to abide by the universitys Academic Regulation pertaining to all matters during their course of study. Students are advised to take note that class attendance is very important. Eligibility to sit for the Final Examination of the course is based on your attendance performance of the face to face classes. Students on conventional learning mode must meet 70 per cent of the attendance requirement to be able to sit for the Final Examination of the course (10 times over 14 times of face to face classes). For students on distance learning mode must meet 50 per cent of the attendance requirement to be able to sit for the Final Examination of the course (5 times over 10 times of face to face classes).
