Diclofenac Sodium Brand Name: Voltaren, Diclowal

CLASSIFICATION
Nonopiod analgesic Anti-inflammatory Antipyretic NSAID

INDICATIONS
Acute or long term treatment of mild to moderate pain, including dysmenorrhea Rheumatoid arthritis

SIDE EFFECTS
Headache Dizziness Dyspepsia GI pain Diarrhea Constipation Anaphylactoid reactions to fatal anaphylactic shock Headache Dizziness Somnolence Insomnia Rash Dyspepsia GI pain Constipation Gastric or duodenal ulcers Renal impairment

NURSING RESPONSIBILITIES
Administer drug with food or after meals if GI upset occurs Arrange for periodic ophthalmologic examination during long-term therapy. Take only the prescribed dosage Do not use during labor, delivery or while nursing; serious adverse effects to the fetus or baby are possible. Keep emergency equipment readily available at time of initial dose, in case of severe hypersensitivity reaction Protect drug vials from light Administer every 6 hr to maintain serum levels and control pain. Ketorolac therapy should always be given initially by the IM or IV route. Oral therapy

Possibly effective for treatment of cerebral vascular insufficiency, peripheral vascular disease caused by arteriosclerosis obliterans, thromboangiitis obliterans, Raynaud's disease. Treatment of dysmenorrhea, premature labor.

should be used only as a continuation of parenteral therapy. May be taken with or without food. May be taken w/ meals, milk or antacids to minimise GI discomfort. Oral: Store at room temperature, 15-30C (59-86F) Parenteral: Store at room temperature, 1530C (59-86F). Caution patient to avoid sudden position changes to prevent orthostatic hypotension. Citicoline may be taken with or without food. Take it with or between meals. The supplement should not be taken in the late afternoon or at night because it can cause difficulty of sleeping. Women who are pregnant or trying to become pregnant should consult with their doctor before taking the supplements.

Not enough is known about the use of Citicoline during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Stay on the safe side and avoid use. Special attention should be paid for administration in the neonate, premature and children. Contact the physician immediately if allergic reaction such as hives, rash, or itching, swelling in your face or hands, mouth or throat, chest tightness or trouble breathing are experienced. Citicoline therapy should be started within 24 hours of a stroke. The physician will prescribe the correct dosage and the length of time it should be taken for a medical condition. A high initial dose is recommended of up to 3 coated tablets at meal times for flatulence. The dose can be

post-operative meteorism; flatulence; gastrocardiac (Roemheld) syndrome. Preparation for radiography of abdomen in meteorism (diagnostic procedures involving biliary ducts & kidneys, radiography of the lumbar segment of the vertebral column & pelvis, pancreatic exocrine insufficiency.
