1. I have had the great privilege, (since Aug 2010), of presenting talks on the weekly Radio Program Culture of Islam [Every Friday 8 to 8.30 pm, Radio Sri Lanka - FM 97.4] 2. Since these are Radio Talks, I refer to, or address the audience as listeners 3. I am well aware that the audience to these talks would consist of people belonging to a variety of faiths. So as to make people of all faiths feel included, I very often use words and names that are common to all religions. 4. For these reasons, I use the name GOD, as well as Abraham, Moses, Jesus etc as well as the names Allah, Ibrahim (Alaihis Salaam), Moosa (Alaihis Salaam), Easa (Alaihis Salaam) etc 5. Muslims by habit usually say Sallallahu Alaihiwasallam, when the name of Prophet Muhammad is mentioned, and Alaihis Salaam' when the name of a Prophet is mentioned. However, in these series of talks I have reduced the use of these prayers & sayings to the bare minimum. 6. Muslims, also by habit, use a number of Arabic prayers or sayings, such as Alhamdulillah, Insha Allah and so on. Again, I have reduced the use of these prayers or sayings to the bare minimum. 7. Sometimes I have to write Arabic words in the English script. I have devised my own way of writing Arabic in English, as follows;

063 Our Benefits on Earth!

Dear Friends, I greet you all with Assalamu Alaikum which, I am sure you would recognize as the greeting of a Muslim, and means Peace be upon you! or Peace unto You! As I have been mentioning each week, this week too, the title is a little complicated. We have 4 levels of titles. Firstly we have the title of this weekly Radio Program titled The Culture of Islam Then at the next level, this is the 10th in a series of Talks, actually the 10th episode, and the Title of the series Knowing God or Knowing Allah, I prefer to call it Knowing Allah Taaalah or Knowing Allah the Most Exalted Then we have the next level or the third level of titles. A few weeks ago, I began preparing for a talk that I titled Is this what we are created for? or Why are we on Earth indeed an intriguing topic. One that all of us are asking, but do not know how to ask or from whom to ask what a dilemma. Now whilst doing research for this talk, I came up with 8 sub headings or sub topics and there was so much of material, all of which needed examining, so then I decided that I must convert that talk to a sub series of 9 talks the 1st would be a sort of a walk through of the sub topics and the material and then a weekly talk on each sub topic. The sub topics are; 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. What do we see, on Earth? Who are we? Where do we fit in? Our special benefits, on Earth What makes us stand out? What makes us special? Who is really in charge? What does God or Allah tell us about Himself? Our special faculties how they should be used, how they should not be used. The two paths.

During the earlier two weeks I was also able to talk on; 1. What do we see, on Earth? 2. Who are we? Where do we fit in? And thus todays topic for my talk would be Our special benefits on Earth Since we have covered what we see on Earth, this time I am going to choose some Aayaths from the Holy Quran (Aayath means Signs so signs from the Holy Quran) where Allah Taaalah informs us about the special benefits he has kept for us on this Earth it does make us very very special and I am sure that like me, all you listeners too would be asking the questions why? Why are we so special? What is the reason? What is our role? What is the objective of our creation?

First let us see what makes us different from all other creatures or living organisms the obviously ones first. 1. We dress 2. We have a sense of shame 3. We adapt to any environment 4. We make use of all materials and elements in this Earth so as to improve our lifestyles as well as to increase our knowledge 5. We colonize, we farm, we herd, we shepherd. 6. We speak many languages we display many diverse cultures cultures themselves are anchored around environment, language, beliefs, values (which differ from culture to culture) and knowledge gained from social interaction which we call education. Now let us see what Allah Taaalah points out to us.

(2:164) Surely, in the creation of heavens and earth, and the alternation of night and day, and the ships that sail in the sea, carrying that which benefits men, and in the water Allah sent down from the sky, then revived with it the earth after it was dead, and in every creature He has scattered on it, and in turning of winds, and in the clouds employed to serve between heaven and earth, there are signs for those who have sense.

(This Aayath, in phrases) (002:164) Surely in the creations of the Heavens & Earth and the alternation of night and day, and the ships that sail in the sea, carrying that which benefits men and in the water Allah sent down from the sky, then revived with it the earth after it was dead and in every creature He has scattered on it and in turning of winds and in the clouds employed to serve between heaven and earth there are signs for those who have sense.

(006:097) (6:97) He is the One who made for you the stars, so that you may be guided by them in darkness of the land and the sea. We have elaborated the signs for the people who know. (015:016) (15:16) We have created stellar formations in the sky and have beautified them for onlookers,

Gave us whatever we asked for - His bounties Man is Unjust (014:034) (14:34) and He gave you whatever you asked for. If you (try to) count the bounties of Allah, you cannot count them all. Indeed, man is highly unjust, very ungrateful.

(This Aayath, in phrases) (014:034) And He giveth you of all that ye ask for. But if ye count the favours of Allah, never will ye be able to number them. Verily, man is given up to injustice and ingratitude. (013:002)

Wa Aathaakum min kulli Maa Sa AlthumooH Wa inthghudhdhoo NighmathaLLaaHi Laa ThuhSWooHaa Innal Insaana laDHzaloomun kaffaar

(13:2) Allah is the One who raised the heavens without pillars that you can see them. Then He positioned Himself on the Throne and subjugated the sun and the moon, each one of them running to an appointed time. He manages all matters, elaborating the signs, so that you may be sure of meeting your Lord.

(This Aayath, in phrases - 013:002) Allah is He Who raised the heavens without any pillars that ye can see He has subjected the sun and the moon (to his Law)! Each one runs (its course) for a term appointed. He doth regulate all affairs explaining the signs in detail that ye may believe with certainty in the meeting with your Lord. (013:003) (13:3) He is the One who spread out the earth and made mountains and rivers on it, and created in it the pairs of two from all the fruits. He makes the night cover the day. Surely, in that there are signs for a people who think.

ALLaaHullazee Rafaghas Samaawaathi biGhairi ghamadhin tharauwnaHaa Wa Sakhkharash Shaumsa Wal Qamaraa Kullun Yajree Li ajalim Musamma Yudhabbirul amra YuFaSWSWilul Aayaathi laghallakum bi liQaaI Rabbikum ThooQinoon

(This Aayath, in phrases - 013:003) And it is He who spread out the earth, WaHuwallazee Madhdhal Ardhla and set thereon mountains standing firm Wajaghal FeeHaa Rawaasiya Wa anHaaraa and (flowing) rivers: and fruit of every kind He made in pairs, Wa minkullis Ssamaraathi jaghala FeeHaa two and two: ZauwjaiyniSsnain He draweth the night as a veil o'er the YuGHshil Laiylan NaHaar Day. Behold, verily in these things there are Inna Fee Zaalika Aayaathinl Li Qouwmin signs for those who consider! Yathafakkaroon Cattle 16:5 And cattle He has created for you (men): Wal Anghaama KhalaQaHaa from them ye derive warmth, and 16:5 Lakum FeeHaa dhifun wa manaafighu numerous benefits, 16:5 and of their (meat) ye eat. WaminHaa thakuloon And wherein is beauty for you, when you Walakum jamaalun bring them home in the evening, and as 16:6 heena thurihoona you lead them forth to pasture in the Wa heena thasrahoon morning. And they carry your loads to a city where Wa Thahmilu ASsQaalakum ilaa Baladhil 16:7a you were not able to reach without Lam thakoonoo BaaliGHeeHi illaa putting yourselves to arduous labor. biShiQQil Anfus Surely, your Lord is Very-Kind, Very16:7b Inna Rabbakum La Raoofur Raheem Merciful. and made for you houses from the hides Wajaghalalakum Min juloodhil Anghaami 16:80b of cattle, buyoothan which you find so light on the day you Thastha khif foonaHaa Yauwma 16:80c travel and the day you camp, DHZaghinukum Wa Yauwma IQaamathikum and out of their wool and their fur and Wa min aSWwaa feeHaa wa 16:80d their hair (He created) furnishings and AuwbaariHaa wa asghaariHaa ASsaaSsan goods of enjoyment for a period of time. wamathaaghan ilaa heen

(16:80) Allah has made your houses a place of comfort for you, and made for you houses from the hides of cattle, which you find so light on the day you travel and the day you camp, and out of their wool and their fur and their hair (He created) furnishings and goods of enjoyment for a period of time.

(This Aayath, in phrases 016:080) Houses Allah has made your houses a place of 16:80a comfort for you, and made for you houses from the hides 16:80b of cattle, 16:80c which you find so light on the day you travel and the day you camp,

and out of their wool and their fur and 16:80d their hair (He created) furnishings and goods of enjoyment for a period of time. He has subjugated He has subjected the sun and the moon 13:2 (to his Law)! Each one runs (its course) for a term appointed. He created the sun, the moon, and the stars, (all) governed by laws under His 7:54 command. Is it not His to create and to govern? He is the One who has subjugated the 16:14 sea, 16:14 so that you may eat fresh meat from it, and may take out from it ornaments you 16:14 wear, 16:14 and you see the boats cleaving through it, 16:14 and so that you may seek His bounty, 16:14 and that you may be grateful.

He has subjugated for you (for us) And He hath made subject to you the 14:33a sun and the moon, both diligently pursuing their courses; and the night and the day hath he (also) 14:33b made subject to you. He has subjugated for you the day and the night and the sun and the moon, and 16:12 the stars (too) are subservient by His command And (He subjugated to you) whatever 16:13 He created for you on the earth having varied colors. Surely, in that, there is a sign for a 16:13 people who do Zikr

Mountains, Rivers, Tracks, landmarks and stars so that we would find the way 16:15 And He placed mountains on the earth, Wa AlQaafil Ardhli Rawaasiya lest it should shake with you, Anthameedhabikum 16:15 and rivers and tracks, so that you may Wa AnHaaran Wa subulal find the right way, Laghallakum ThaHthadhoon 16:16 and He has set landmarks. Wa ghalaa Maathin 16:16 And by the stars they find the right Wabin Najjmi Hum yaHthadhoon way. What we have covered; The topic Is this, what we are created for?
