Helping hand of BISWA

BISWA is not only implementing micro-finance activities in its project areas to enhance the socio-economic status of poor people but also it is doing a lot of social developmental activities for the needy people. Very recently a news item in The Sambad, an Oriya Daily on the story of a handicapped person named Chagala Nayak (40) was published. The 40 year old Chagala had lost his father. His mother takes care of him. Due to poor financial condition his mother is in a helpless situation to take care of her handicapped child. So, the story of Chagala was given in the newspaper soliciting some financial support. After going through the story of Chagala in the paper, Mr. Manas Ranjan Mohanty, Area-Coordinator, BISWA and Mr. Promod Kumar Mohanty, Organizer, BISWA went to his house and offered him 50k.g. rice, some dresses, sari for his mother and some monetary help. They expressed their deep concern for the helpless poor Chagala and assured all possible help for a permanent solution of his problem.

Workshop on Health Issues of Women Residents of SWADHAR Home

A regional workshop on Health Issues of Women Residents of SWADHAR Home was organized at B I S WA Training Institute Hall on 21st August07. The 1-day workshop was presided over by Dr. D i p t i Pattnaik, Consultant, BISWA. The welcome note was given by Ms. Pranati Bag, SWADHAR Superintendent which was followed by Lighting the Lamp by a SWADHAR resident namely Ms. Pramila. Soon after the welcome ceremony, Dr. Dipti Pattnaik elaborated the objectives of the Workshop, details of the working problems in such homes and inadequacies to manage such homes within the prescribed financial support and paraphernalia by the Govt. of India, Human Resource Department. The other organizations also highlighted some problems like: only Rs. 500/- is given towards food for the whole month which is very low to meet the basic needs and Rs. 25/- is given towards medicine expenses which is very low to meet the demands. As the residents are already in a miserable condition, they need more care & attention. Hence, more medical facility is required for them. Another major problem which all SWADHAR homes are facing is: sometimes people send mentally challenged women to these homes. Such women need special care and attention and also some essential infrastructure with-in these homes are required to keep them which is unfortunately not available anywhere. So these homes face much difficulty when such types of mentally challenged women come to the home. In addition to this, the children need more

IMPORTANCE OF TIME
Time and Tide waits for none. Everything in nature changes with time. If one accepts changes; then he pulls on well and he manages well also. Time management is the BEST management. We have to address as per the demands of the Time. If we fail to adjust ourselves with time and give bad answers; then time retaliates. This is quite important in our day-today-working as well. If we fail to deliver in time; then it disturbs the whole process. It has a cascading effect. This time mismanagement creates a bad repercussion. It tarnishes the image of the organization. We must make best use of the resources like Time, Money & Manpower. As a responsible and vigilant worker in the Social Sector; we should realize the value of time. Let us pledge to be time-conscious in its truest sense.
