About Modesto City Schools

Modesto City Schools is made up of an elementary school district (grades K-8) and a high school district (grades 9-12). Both are governed by a single, sevenmember Board of Education elected at large from within the high school district attendance area approximately 250 square miles for four-year terms of office. There are 22 elementary schools (grades K-6), four junior high schools (grades 7-8), seven comprehensive high schools (grades 9-12), and an extensive alternative education program within Modesto City Schools. Enrollment for the 2012-2013 school year is expected to reach approximately over 30,000 students. The Districts Strategic Plan outlines the commitment to the educational achievement of every student, regardless of his or her background or circumstance. Five Essentials comprise the Strategic Plan: Rigorous and Relevant Instruction, Culture of Continuous Learning, Strong Relationships, Quality Leadership, and Shared Responsibility and Accountability. Board of Education members encourage parents and others interested in public education to attend Board of Education meetings. More information, including meeting dates, is available on the districts website: mcs4kids.com.
