After 2 years in India, Rexam is investing heavily on a plant extension to meet the most stringent regulated market requirements and offer new products in India, such as child-resistant closures and additional production capacity for ophthalmic products. With a state-of-the-art 1000 sqm class 8 clean room fully compliant with cGMP standards, Rexam Pharma Packaging India, will reinforce its leadership in Ophthalmology and increase capacity by 50% early 2009. The Bangalore site (India) joined Rexam Pharma in 2006 at the time of Rexams acquisition of the Indian pharmaceutical packaging company Truepack. Rexam Pharma Packaging India is the first multinational company in India currently in Rigid Plastic Packaging. This plant specialises in eye, ear and oral dropper bottles, nasal spray sets as well as CRC closure systems. It manufactures locally the Rispharm range of products an ophthalmic blockbuster with complete documentation for the regulated markets and is the first company to manufacture CRC caps in India. Offering a class 8 cleanroom of 1,000 sqm, this plant complies with the Good Manufacturing Practices in accordance with the requirements applied by pharmaceutical companies both for the actual medicinal product and its container. Argus-Loc, the first child resistant closure manufactured in India.

Rexam Pharma Packaging India will be the first company to manufacture child-resistant closures (CRC) in India. The Argus-Loc was originally produced by O-I Plastics, a leading US manufacturer of rigid plastic healthcare packaging and plastic closure systems, acquired by Rexam in 2007. The manufacturing of the Argus-Loc cap by Rexam Pharma India, proves an excellent fit in terms of customers, technologies, innovation, end use applications and geography Developed for products requiring childresistant packaging, the Argus-Loc is a two- piece, push--and-turn closure. Both the overcap and undercap are moulded in polypropylene. The Argus-Loc also offers packaging designs that allow for easy portability for the active senior. The opening instructions are embossed on the top surface and a liner retention feature is included. Evipharm/ Secupharm: an innovative integrated filled-in-line desiccant cap for bottles

Rexam Pharma has developed an innovative process which includes injection of plastic parts, automated assembly and desiccant filling. From the quality standpoint, improved traceability and process control reinforce existing GMP compliance. Secupharm and Evipharm were developed with pharmacopoeia compliant materials. Both fit 32 mm-neck bottles from 20ml up to 100ml, featuring thick HDPE walls to guarantee the best moisture barrier and ensure high rigidity. Regarding Supply Chain, a shorter production cycle with fewer parts to assemble leads to performance & improved reliability. These benefits come at a competitive cost thanks to a streamlined manufacturing process. Evipharm has a filled-in desiccant ranging from 0.6g to 3.4g and tamper evident features. Secupharm is the new reference in child-resistant push-and-turn closures, with the same tamper evident features as Evipharm. Rexams embedded RFID bottles support a safe and secure supply chain for the Pharmaceutical Industry
Rexam announces new RFID enabled containers for the pharmaceutical industry that will bring a robust and reliable solution. Rexam has developed fully integrated Radio Frequency Identification enabled plastic pharmaceutical bottles that allow compliance with FDA recommendations. The tags (either HF or UHF) are encapsulated into discs and molded into containers combining fully traceable life cycle and counterfeiting prevention. Using a patented technology, these new bottles allow for greater robustness and reliability of RFID functions. The integration of the tag with the bottles enables traceability from the origin of the process and ensures 100% viable tags. Rexams RFID solution offers less damage of tags as molded-in integration protects tag and fewer null reads from tag-to-tag contact on conveyer lines. Rexam launches the SafenSound, a passive safety device for 1 ml long syringes
In response to the continued concern over unprotected needle exposures and the mandated Safety and Prevention regulations, Rexam has developed a fully passive safety device for prefilled syringes: the SafenSound. The SafenSound provides healthcare industries and patients with a full protection from needlesticks to avoid any contamination. Compared to a standard syringe, the SafenSound system guarantees passive protection as the syringe retracts automatically in the system after the injection without any action by the user. Compact, light and transparent, the SafenSound has only three components (a sleeve, a body and a spring).
