Introduction In this experiment, each group were assigned to build a device that implies the basic principles of different kinds of mirrors. In this case, the group was given the task of making a parabolic reflector. Guides were distibuted to each of the groups serving as additional help for easier construction. The objectives of this experiment are to make a precise parabolic reflector, test its effectiveness, and determine certain characteristics the parabolic reflector has. II. Theory

A parabolic reflector is a possible home-made reflector that is used to gather concentrated light energy as it reflects incoming waves, such as light waves, sound waves, and radio waves ,and bounce them back to a specific focus point, therefore, making concentrated heated energy. It is commonly used as solar cookers, as they focus light into a fixed place that can be used as sources of heat. Also, it is a means of constant tracking since a slight deviation in its delicate position of the sun will change its sharp focus, unlike other reflectors. [1] Back in the old days, parabolic reflectors are already popular for their efficient uses. In Ancient Greece and Rome, a mathematician named Diocles wrote that parabolic reflectors focus a parallel beam to a point. in his book, On Burning Mirrors. [2] It is also said that Archimedes made a very huge parabolic reflector and used it to make opposing ships on fire in the Siege of Syracuse battle. [2] However, parablic reflectors also have its own disadvantages, just like any other devices. The problem with the said reflectors is the size of its focus [1]. Usually, the position of the focused energy is small, making its use limited to only that of the objects or instruments which have the identical size. But still, it depends on the construction of the device. [2] In modern days, parabolic reflectors can be used in numerous ways. One of these uses is to gather enormous amounts of light energy making intense heat energy that can be later on converted to electricity. Another use is for cooking. When a person wants to heat food, he can just simply put his food directly in the focus. [2] Satellite dishes, spotlights, car headlights, and reflecting telescopes are some kinds of parabolic reflectors. [2]
