Currently, this business attracts a number of rebates and preferential as follows:

21 days rent-free period (Tema) and 30 days (for Mali from Takoradi) rent-free period as against 7 days for local cargo 30 per cent rebate on tariff for transit cargo
10% rebate on port dues for transit

Speedy exit of loaded transit trucks to Transit Truck park for final processes

IMPROVING PORT ACCESS

Used to have 10 Transit Sheds but now reduced to 5 sheds to make way for increasing container activity Many newly developed transit sheds around the port Takoradi has 4 transit sheds of 15,528sq. m

Improving Port Access

Single window clearance process Satellite tracking system for transit cargoes Allocation of space to Sahelian countries for offices and warehousing facilities Creation of a National Transit and trade facilitation Committee Implementation of ISRT by Ghana

IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS
Rehabilitation of access roads linking the three gates of the port- the main entrance , central and eastern gates. Installation of traffic lights to regulate the flow of traffic to and from the port. Undertaking port operations processes to ease congestion in the port e.g . Evacuation and transfer of containers, vehicles are done at night. The port has introduced electronic gating system to further reduce unauthorised persons entering into the port

Improvement Projects
New weighbridges acquired for the ports through EU funding Construction of more ICDs West African Trade Hub project Borderless Project Efforts to construct rest Stops

Benefits
Reduce dwell time of cargo in the port Quick vehicular turn round time Reduced cost quicker clearance Minimised delays

CHALLENGES
Lack of uniform implementation of axle load policy in the sub-region Low-containerisation of cargo Numerous checkpoints Inability of importers to clear cargoes in time Delays at transit truck park partly due to STDs and advanced money for drivers congestion problems Seeking funding for the development of rail connections from port to hinterland
