Wednesday 25 June 2008

Strategic Focus Day 08:30 17:30
PLANT OPTIMISATION THROUGH EFFECTIVE WORK ORDER MANAGEMENT
Very often, the strategic concerns and business drivers behind reliability management are left for you to figure out in the confines of your plant. This opens up several pits for unnecessary cost and time wastages. Its not just about achieving technical reliability. In fact the Process Plant Managers and Heads of Maintenance/ Reliability we interviewed stated that their biggest headache today is: optimising their plant through proper work order management. In light of this, this strategic focus day is an opportunity for Senior Level Managers, who are responsible for plant-wide operations to come together and debate the challenges involved in the entire reliability lifecycle, including planning, design and implementation. Register today and ensure you take the opportunity to benchmark your strategies and equip yourself with the most appropriate plan for your plant optimisation. Key topics that will be addressed through an hour-long expert presentation with case studies, followed by interactive breakout discussions: 09:00

dollars by improving plant availability and drastically reducing the need for replacement of spares as it provides the means of knowledge based repairs and overhauls. Effective Condition Monitoring has many key benefits: 1. It provides sufficient lead-time before a catastrophic failure occurs. Machines can be shut down well ahead of critical condition resulting in improved equipment and operator safety 2. It helps to assure more efficient plant operation and consistency of product quality 3. Because it enables accurate knowledge of your equipments health condition, its a powerful means of effective negotiations with the OEM on optimum plant repairs/overhauls 4. Plus, the quality of overhauls can be evaluated by comparing the health parameter values after the overhaul with those when the equipment/plant were new During this workshop we will review how to utilize Condition Monitoring techniques to achieve all of these benefits in your plant. The workshop will be broken into the following key topic areas: Introduction to Condition Monitoring and its integration with modern maintenance systems Advanced CM/NDT techniques like vibration analysis, motor current analysis, thermography, ultrasonic testing, wear debris analysis (Ferrography)of lubricant and hydraulic fluid in service, borescope (endoscope for equipment like gearboxes and bearings without dismantling), acoustics analysis lubricant analysis, particle counting of hydraulic fluids, etc Diagnostics and use of advance software/expert systems for fault diagnosis Application details and integration of advance CM techniques and diagnostics with the existing Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) Case studies from process industries, power plants, utilities, heavy-duty on/off road mobile vehicles and rotating machines etc Conclusion and discussion Led by Chaturanan Mishra Senior Advisor TATA STEEL

DEFINING THE ROLE OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT TO ATTAIN OVERALL PLANT RELIABILITY

Attendees with anything above a few years of experience in the reliability field are recommended to attend this Masterclass - especially if they are Reliability/ Maintenance/ Operations/ Plant Managers who are heavily involved in planning and implementing maintenance schedules and activities. In any project, a project group deliverable is on-schedule and on-budget completion of their work with turnover of related documentation while that of O&M group is to achieve/ exceed production targets through smooth running of the plant with minimum downtime. Reliability is a much talked about aspect for the O&M group to ensure longterm sustenance of plant systems and equipment. But the concept vis--vis the importance of Reliability is not fully imparted in the mind set of Project Group Personnel. Clearly there remains a gap in the work objective and associated deliverables between the project group and O&M group. This Masterclass aims at bridging this gap by examining the key areas and suggesting remedial measures for optimum project management that leads to effective operations and maintenance delivery. Key topics for discussion will include: Maintaining cost and / or schedule targets for the project Identifying and examining commonly valued engineered decisions by the project group Optimisation of system configuration Waiver on specification requirements Understanding the impact of project group decisions on O&M activities Dealing with inadvertent reliability compromising situations with respect to plant O&M activities Overcoming the main road block to attain reliability of the given system & equipment during day to day operation of plant Developing a plan for action that strikes the middle-ground for project and O&M groups Defining reliability concepts and requirements upfront in project management Communicating effectively project teams strategic decisions to O&M group Ensuring O&M activities match the projected reliability initiatives Closing gaps that arise at the early stages of project management Led by Suvankar Dasgupta Section Head Project Support JUBAIL UNITED PETROCHEMICAL
