Manifesto for Financial Officer for the 84th session of the Law Society. Introduction.

My name is Ciara Flannery, Im a first year Law International student and this is my manifesto for the position of Finance Officer for the 84th session of the UCC Law Society. This year has been exceptional for the Law Society, from what I have heard and what I experienced for myself. My ambition after having seen what a fantastic society it is, one which offers a myriad of opportunities to all who join, be it debating, mooting, an educational trip or a brilliant night out, is to fully immerse myself in it and to truly experience all it has to offer.

The funding and sponsorship this society receives every year is fundamental to it in that it is what allows the society to offer such opportunities and to maintain its reputation for excellence. It would be my pleasure to once again secure this funding and hopefully, with a bit of luck and plenty of hard work, to increase it. Ls, this years Finance Officer has been fantastic in answering all of my questions with regard to the position and having received a rundown of the general duties of the Finance Officer, which include the securing of sponsorship, budgeting and the payment of bills etc., I believe that I would be more than capable of carrying them out. I would be more than willing to work closely with the committee throughout the Summer and to be in contact with Ls so as to ensure that the society will be fully financially prepared for the coming year.

Aims and Objectives:

The Law Society is first and foremost and educational society, and the correct allocation of funds to allow for educational trips and co-curricular events is paramount. I would strive maintain our strong links with our generous beneficiaries, A&L Goodbody, Arthur Cox and William Fry who have been fantastic in funding the many events organised by the society throughout the year. I aim to utilise

those funds in the optimum way so as to allow the society to continue as it is. The procurement of additional funds is, of course, a top priority, and I would work tirelessly to secure additional sponsorship for the society. I would use all manner of communications to contact those establishments I perceive to be in any way inclined to sponsor our prestigious society and I would be very persistent in hoping that they would bestow upon us some funds as it all adds up! I am fully intent on working closely with the other members of the society so as to make it as economically viable as possible for all of its members. I would work closely with the PRO and Social Secretary to try and procure funding from organisations via advertising by the PRO, and venues that are connected to the Social Secretary. The social events, which are hugely popular and always come with a reasonable price tag, would be a priority for me when it comes to funding as they are renowned for being exceptional and affordable. I would work closely with the Social Secretary to ensure that they continue in this manner by ensuring the best deals are made available to all members of the society from all manner of establishments, be it Havanas or Gentlemans Quarters. Additionally I would make serious efforts to align the society with a charity in order to raise funds for those in need. It is important for the society to be seen to be giving back and it would be fantastic to have a charity linked to us! As Finance Officer I believe I would be in the ideal position to make this happen and it is something I would pursue determinedly.

Experience.

I chose the position of Finance Officer because I enjoy working with numbers. I am extremely organised and I work diligently, be it alone or as part of a team. Having done Honours Maths for the Leaving Cert I am confident that I have the requisite mathematical ability to carry out this role. As a crew member of the Dingle Boat Mans Association for the past five years I have had various minor monitory responsibilities placed upon me and have never once had a problem with them. I am cautious with money and therefore will distribute it fairly among the various factions of the

committee and I will not succumb to pressure placed upon me by any individual member. I am currently in charge of fundraising and securing sponsorship as part of a group of volunteers who are heading off to Vietnam in the Summer. I have secured sponsorship from many businesses in Dingle and am in charge of how best to allocate and maximise these funds. Additionally, I have learned not to be afraid to ask for financial assistance which is an essential attribute in a Finance Officer, whose core task is to secure funds. I am a competent outgoing person and I believe, and hopefully youll agree, that I would be an asset to the 84th session of the society.
