VeriFire Tools 5.

0 Release Notes
VeriFire Tools 5.0 adds new features / functionality to support the NFS2-640, NFS-320, and USB support. To accommodate the enhanced programming capability, VeriFire Tools 5.0 is packaged with software called NFN Gateway application. The NFN Gateway application is required software for VeriFire Tools to communicate with a control panel or a NOTI-FIRE-NET. This application needs to be running on the PC before using VeriFire Tools to perform any communications with a control panel. Please familiarize yourself with the steps below to access the NFN Gateway and associated applications: To Start the NFN Gateway application: o Go to Start -> Programs -> VeriFire Tools and select NFN Gateway. The default password for login is 00000000 [eight zeros] o Go to File and then Shutdown Gateway. Answer Yes when prompted Are you sure you want to exit the NFN Gateway. This will shut down the NFN Gateway task completely To Run the Serial Port Configuration Utility: o Disable the NFN Gateway application as described above o Access the Serial Port Configuration Utility o Start the NFN Gateway application as described above Please also familiarize yourself with the following scenarios: SCENARIO #1: New VeriFire Tools installation messages and USB driver information SCENARIO #1.1 NUP connections are not allowed with USB connections SCENARIO #2: VeriFire Tools 5.0 fails to connect to the NFN Gateway through a USB connection SCENARIO #3: Attempt to log into a fire panel fails SCENARIO #4: VeriFire Tools 5.0 fails to connect to the NFN Gateway SCENARIO #5: Security alert from an antivirus software when VeriFire Tools and the NFN gateway is started SCENARIO #6: Laptops not able to activate standby or hibernate mode when VeriFire Tools 5.0 is installed with NFN Gateway SCENARIO #7: Multiple popup error messages when starting the NFN gateway

SCENARIO #1.1
The network node list in VeriFire Tools changes and only shows a direct (CPU) connection between it and the panel, with no other nodes present. This occurs under the following conditions: 1. Communication has been established with a FACP through NUP using VeriFire Tools. 2. Subsequently, a secondary connection has been made through USB directly to the USB port of a supported panel. POSSIBLE REASONS: This abnormal operation occurs because both USB and NUP communications cannot coexist and the USB takes precedence. The restriction is the cause of the network node list updating when USB connection was made. SOLUTION: Use the NUP connection or USB connection when communicating with the supported panels; however, do not use both connections at the same time. Once the USB connection is removed, the node list will return to the previous listing.

SCENARIO #3
Attempt to log into a panel and receive the following messages or actions:

Or this one,

Or lastly, you will have appeared to have logged in, but did not receive any successful confirmation message. POSSIBLE REASONS: The NFN Gateway is set to the same node address as one of the panels. This could be the case in a multi-panel network or a direct connect configuration to a single panel. SOLUTION: Change the NFN Gateway to a node address that is unique from the other panel(s). To do so perform the following steps: a. Go to File, and then select Login. b. Type in your password. The default password for login is 00000000 [eight zeros]. c. SCENARIO #4
When VeriFire Tools 5.0 is installed, it fails to connect to the NFN Gateway application. The following messages are displayed:

Or

SOLUTION 1: Check that the NFN Gateway is running as a background task in the Taskbar. You may have inadvertently shutdown this task. If it is currently running you will see this icon shown below:

If it is not running, then start the NFN Gateway by navigating to: Start -> Programs -> VeriFire Tools and select NFN Gateway SOLUTION 2: The new NFN gateway application requires the customer to check if they have a firewall program running (Like Zone Alarm or Nortons Firewall) and they must allow the NFN gateway to have accessibility to the TCP and UDP ports (or to temporarily remove firewall protection) Some firewall applications allow the user to permanently allow programs accessibility through the firewall by prompting the user (better approach)

SCENARIO #5
Security alert from my antivirus software appears when VeriFire Tools and the NFN gateway application are started. SOLUTION: Confirm the filename is NFNGateway.exe and resides on your installation drive (e.g, C:\Notifier\NFNGateway\NFNGateway.exe or C:\Uninet\NFNGateway\NFNGateway.exe). If so, this is pointing to the NFN Gateway application that is attempting to run. If a different file is shown, you need to investigate further it may be a threat to your computer The NFN Gateway, like many modern Internet related programs today, use the TCP protocol to communicate, which requires access to various computer ports. Security programs, such as Norton antivirus shown below, flag this access as a possible intrusion. Simple check the setting in the antivirus to not be alerted of this again and this message should not appear
