Baptism Interview Process

Revised on March 11, 2013 As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized? Philip said, If you believe with all your heart, you may. The eunuch answered, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he gave orders to stop the chariot. 1 2 3 4 When did you pray to receive Jesus as your Savior? Who was with you? Where did you pray? What did you pray to God that day? If there answers to the first 4 questions seem good, move on to question 5. If not, ask them these follow-up questions and proceed to question 5 if youre still not sure: a What is sin? What are some examples of sin? b Who is Jesus? Whose son is He? c What did Jesus do about our sins? 5 Why do you want to get baptized? If there answers are good, move on to the Information to Give section. If not, ask these questions: a Does getting baptized wash away your sins? b Does getting baptized get you into Heaven?

Information to Give
1 Review the list of supplies to bring on the day they get baptized: a Towel b One-piece bathing suit (and dark board shorts for girls) c Dark shirt Have them meet in the Green Room 30 minutes before their service. Show them where the Green Room is. Tell them what questions theyll be asked on stage and encourage them to practice short (15sec) answers at home: a How did you become a Christian? b Why do you want to get baptized? If theyre ready to get baptized go over the Information to Give section, email their testimony to the appropriate secretary, and check fill out their info in Arena. If theyre not ready: a Have the child wait in your office while you talk to their parents. b Get the parents input on if they think their child is ready (at this point theyll probably know theyre not). c Explain why you think theyre not ready. d Go over the baptism homework worksheets and explain well reschedule their baptism once theyre done. e Tell the child youd like them to do this worksheet before they get baptized. f Let them know this is just a next step before they get baptized. This is not because they failed. g As soon as its done theyll come back in for another discussion and well move forward from there. h Answer any questions the family has and give them your card in case they have any questions later.
