Results of the Survey with Graphs and an Analysis

1. How appealing is the Quiz? For this question we asked, we gave out 5 multiple choice answering options: not at all; not so much; good enough; really good and excellent. Out of the 30 students that responded, 26 of them, from both genders, thought that we had loads of contrasting colors which made it interesting to play but not too distracting. They said that the text was readable and not covered by the background colors and each text box was outlined meaning that the player knows where the boundaries for clicking the answers are. This told us that in terms of aesthetics and appealing our product to our target audience was a success as a mere 4/30 people rated it as really good. These 4 people said that an improvement could be to make the question answering options harder to guess as at the moment, the options have large contrasts and are very obvious. This will make the quiz more appealing not in visuals but in the content of the quiz based on our target audience. A Graph Showing this Questions Results:

2. Was the Quiz Easy to Follow and Understand? For this question we asked, we gave out 4 multiple choice answering options: This quiz was confusing and very difficult to understand; this quiz was not that confusing but difficult to understand; this quiz was slightly confusing and slightly difficult to understand and this quiz is clear, to the point, simple and very easy to understand. Out of the 30 students that responded, from both genders, 20 of them thought that it was clear, to the point, simple and very easy to understand, 7 of them though that it was slightly confusing and slightly difficult to understand and 3 of them thought it was not

For the other 10 students who chose the second and third answering options all said that the reason it was difficult to understand was that the instructions and definitions of poetic devices page was very long and too many poetic devices were needed to be memorized in order to play the game (this wasted their time and they got annoyed by it.) Rather than this, we feel that our quiz was to the point and simple in terms of both language used and aesthetics (simple meaning not too distractive,) as in the research phase, we figured that year nines dont like to waste time and to read complicated and long bodies of text (they like precise and simple but clear things.) 3. Would this Quiz be Successful in Teaching Year nines about Figurative Language? For this question we asked, we gave out 3 different answering options: No it wouldnt help at all and is a waste of time; will only help a bit; will really help and is also a fun way to learn. Out of the 30 students from both genders that responded, 20 of them said that it will really help teach them about figurative language and is a fun way to learn and 10 students replied that it will only help a bit. They said that the quiz is not yet complete yet and so not many questions are in yet but if you were to finish the quiz then it would in fact be a great way to teach us about poetic devices. We feel that our aim was to create a successful quiz to teach year nines about poetic devices and when our product is completed, based on the few questions we do have, we would be successful as our client, Mr Joe said. 4. How could we have improved if we did the same Project again Next Time? For this question, we gave the students of both genders an open answering text box so that they could write whatever they honestly thought. Out of the 30 students that responded, 20 of them had a similar thought, which was to put the poem, question and answering options on the same page as it was quite annoying when you are answering a question but forgot the poem and had to keep on going back and forth to analyze each aspect of it. 5 students said that our main title page is too simple and that we need more images in our quiz. Also, our definitions of poetic devices and instructions pages have too much text and are extremely boring to memorize and read. The rest of the students just found our quiz a bit too short and would have loved for us to have finished the quiz as they found it interesting to play as everything was functional and it taught them about figurative language in an interesting way. In terms of our opinions, as the 20 students and our client thought, we should have made the questions, answering options and poem on the same page so that they could just look at the poem and answer the question rather than going back and forth. When we were actually creating our product, we actually thought of this but then realized that there was too less space to include all these things. So, we decided to separate them but according to our client and the students we surveyed, we should have done this. We thought that our product was quite successful for what is there and dont really agree with the 5 people who said it needs more images as it looks aesthetically pleasing with the different contrasting colors and the outlines for text boxes (this shows the boundaries of where to click when answering an option or moving to the next page.) 5. On a Scale of 1-10, what would you Rate the Quiz Overall? For this question, we gave answering options from 1-10; 1-2 being needs improvement and 9-10 being Excellent. Based on the 30 students who responded from both genders, 6 of them rated it a 9-10, 20 of them voted it as 7-8 and 4 of the rated it 5-6. The people who rated it as 7-8 and 5-6 stated that the quiz is not finished yet and the contrast between answering options are vague so its pretty easy to guess. Also, the poems, questions and answering options are not on the same page so we have to go back and forth to remember each aspect of the poem to answer that particular question. This gets very annoying as you just want to see the poem and then you can answer the question straight away. Also, your definitions of poetic devices and instruction pages are way too long and this makes it boring to read. These are the reasons why they rated it a 5-8. In my opinion, our quiz stands in the 7-8 regions as although what is there functions properly and teaches year nines about figurative language in a fun way, there are a few flaws that could be improved exactly as explained with the students from both genders who rated it a 5-8.

6. What did you like about this quiz: For this question, we decided to make it a text box answering option so that the students can respond however they like to. Out of the 30 students who answered the other questions, only 20 answered this one which was kind of disappointing as we worked so hard on this scratch project but it will do as you can still make a fair test with 20 responses. Almost all the students said that the thing they liked most about this quiz is the fact that actual poems are used to so this not only gives the definitions of poetic devices but shows how it is used in poems to convey different emotions as well as moods. This is better than a regular quiz where you have to match the definitions with the poetic device as it shows how each poetic device can be used to convey a particular impression. They also like the fact of a scoreboard to try to beat your high score every time you play. In our opinion, we like many things about our quiz. We think, as the students responded, its better to use actual poems in the quiz to teach students about figurative language. Also, we used loads of contrasting realistic and unrealistic images and colors to make the quiz eye catching and intended to our target audience (as found out in the research phase.) We also agree with the scoreboard as it creates self-rivalry by trying to beat your high score each time you play.
