Machine Guns

A machine gun is a fully automatic mounted or portable gun, usually designed to fire bullets in quick succession from an ammunition belt or magazine, typically at a rate of several hundred rounds per minute Trench warfare is a form of land warfare using occupied fighting lines consisting largely of trenches, in which troops are significantly protected from the enemy's small arms fire and are substantially sheltered from artillery. (A trench is like a ditch) The Great Depression was a severe worldwide economic depression in the decade preceding World War II. The timing of the Great Depression varied across nations, but in most countries it started in 1930 and lasted until the late 1930s or middle 1940s. It was the longest, most widespread, and deepest depression of the 20th century.

Mustard Gas

A chemical weapon that causes large blisters to form on exposed skin and inside the lungs.

Trench Warfare

Tanks

A tracked, armored fighting vehicle.

Great Depression

Mandate System

A system instituted by League of Nations after WWI in which some territories existed under mandates which in this case, meant the control of other states.

Communism

A political and economic system where the government controls all business and industry centrally.

Total War

A war in which the participating countries use ALL resources from their country to fight (as opposed to the more usual use of only a small portion of a countrys resources).

League of Nations

An organization created after WWI. Multiple countries were part of this group and its goal was to prevent another global war.

Fascism

A government system that is extremely patriotic and believes that the best way to advance the interests of the country is through totalitarian rule.

Totalitarianism

A type of government where the leaders of a country (usually a dictator) controls all aspects of its citizens lives

Propaganda

Advertising or news intended to make people believe something that is untrue or exaggerated.

Holocaust

The systematic extermination of Jews by the Nazis before and during WWII

Pearl Harbor

A military base in Hawaii. It was attacked by Japan and this forced the US to enter the war.

Atomic Bomb

A nuclear weapon, capable of huge devastation and destruction

Axis and Allies

Allies: USA, UK, USSR, China, France Axis: Japan, Italy, Germany

Countries involved in WWI.

Entente and Central Powers

Entente Powers: France, British Empire, USA, Russian Empire Central Powers: Germany, AustroHungarian Empire, Ottoman Empire
