March 2013 Dear Friend, Greetings from everyone at the Full Gospel Lighthouse Church on this beautiful March day. The Lord is moving by His Spirit, bringing hope to the hopeless! Where Jesus is there is always hope! There is a verse of Scripture that says, The desire of a man is his kindness (Proverbs 19:22). Many people long for things but don't attain them because they never work towards reaching those desires. They do not give the Lord the chance to work in and through them to accomplish that goal. But if you will put your heart in the hands of the Lord, he will turn you in the right direction and bring you into that place you desire to be. The apostle Paul said it this way, I count all things but loss, for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord... Then he said, ...this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3: 8, 13 & 14). You have to be determined, and you may have to persevere before you attain that desire, and it may not be easy, but the Scripture says, I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me (Philippians 4:13). There is an account in the Old Testament that I have drawn inspiration from over the years. It is found in II Kings 2 when Elijah was about to depart this world and his servant, Elisha, had a desire to carry on the ministry he received of the Lord. God had spoken to Elijah that He reserved 7,000 men that had not bowed their knee to Baal. It was in the heart of Elisha the servant to teach these sons of the prophets. But Elisha knew he couldn't do it in his own power. He knew his limitations! They journeyed to several locations, each time Elijah telling the servant to stay put there. But each time he answered and said, As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. There is a blessing to following the man of God! He was determined to be blessed if it was the last thing he did! They finally reached their destination: the Jordan River. The last miracle took place, the last sermon was preached, and the last time they would speak here on this earth. Elijah said to the servant, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me (II Kings 2:9). He desired more of God, not for himself, but to help teach and be an example for the next generation of prophets. He knew what he wanted. He didn't consider himself better than the one who brought him to where he was. He simply knew that there was a great need for teaching in his day and only the Holy Spirit could accomplish this ministry through him. How many people began walking with God only to get discouraged and slip away because they didn't know God? Somewhere there was

a lack of teaching in the church of that day, such that Elisha saw the need and longed for God to impart the gift to him. What happened next was fascinating to me because in the midst of a miracle we see the determination of a man who had a desire, which would become his kindness. Elijah said to Elisha, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so (II Kings 2:10). Sometimes we ask hard things from God, which will require God's help and our resolve. We must press our way in, no matter what the obstacles or interference that gets in our way sometimes. And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. And Elisha saw it... He kept his eye on the leader of the ministry and he began his ministry at the point of the power of God! If you are to study these two men of God's life and ministry, you will find that Elisha the servant had exactly double the number of miracles in his ministry as Elijah did. But it never would have happened were it not for Elijah being who he was. We honor our fathers and carry their legacy in our hearts. If we are to be like this servant-turned prophet and spiritual leader we, too, must keep our eyes on the goal, ...looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith May God bless you today as you study His Word and grow in His grace.
