Child: Zahra Khan Date: February 2013 Written by: Teacher Natasha (Head Teacher)

Kia ora/As-salamu alaykum Zahra and whnau, Warm welcome to our over two classroom at An-Nur Zahra! It is so great to have a new friend in our classroom for 2013, all of our teachers are excited to be part of your life long journey of learning as we explore and make working theories of your world while learning more about your interests! The three teachers you see daily in your classroom are: Teacher Natasha (Head Teacher), Teacher Nur, and Teacher Novita. We are very lucky and some of our Islamic lessons are taken by Teacher Maysoon (Manager) and Teacher Huda who is currently in the under two classroom but is looking forward to spending more time in the over two classroom. You will also get to know Teacher Asma who comes during the lunch time. You appear to have settled in very quickly, already establishing friendships through your mutual interests of creative and innovative pursuits in particular sculpting and exploring the play dough. I have observed you taking an interest and being involved in all areas of the curriculum and am pleased to see you are already familiar with our daily routine. I was most

impressed this month with your contribution to our story telling session! At this time you were still settling in to the routines of schools and preferred to quietly observe, however when selected to be an astronaut you stood tall in front of your peers and spoke your lines! I have uploaded the video of this on facebook and encourage you to revisit this experience by watching it with your Mother. Recognising the learning Zahra is already developing essential positive learning dispositions which will be an asset to her in her life long journey of learning! When Zahra takes an interest she is demonstrating the dispositions of courage and curiosity which tells us she has a strong sense of mana whenua or belonging in her new class. While being involved demonstrates the dispositions of trust and playfulness, all of which is essential for learning. The disposition of trust and playfulness tells us she is experiencing mana atua or well being at school. This evidence that she knows her well being is cared for and is experiencing a sense of belonging tells us she has already settled well within our classroom and is ready to contribute, communicate, explore and discover! Zahra demonstrated confidence within herself and her ability to succeed during the story telling session. When she spoke her lines she demonstrated she thinks and communicates with clarity and precision, ka pai/well done! Where to next? I have really enjoyed getting to know you Zahra, and now I am confident that you have settled in very well, we will begin building on your opportunities of working alongside your peers as you further develop these friendships. This will give you more opportunities to express ideas and feeling with clarity and precision while also extending your language.
