Developing RSView32 Projects

Catalog Number: 9399-RSVTRG Course Length: 4.5 days Tuition: $1,710

Course Purpose:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will understand how to use Rockwell Softwares RSView32 Software to create powerful 32-bit Human Machine Interfaces (HMI/MMI) incorporating Microsofts newest OLE/COM and ActiveX technologies. The student will leverage open technologies within the Microsoft Windows platform such as OLE, ActiveX and DDE. Used in conjunction with RSLinx and RSLogix Emulate5 to simulate a PLC, students receive interactive hands-on instruction that emphasizes application of the concepts in an industrial setting. The student will understand how RSView32 provides interoperability with other Rockwell Software products, Microsoft products, and third party offerings. They will also learn to improve upon traditional methods by using object-oriented animated graphics, an open database format, .DBF historical data storage, and enhanced capabilities for trending, alarming, derived tag creation, and event detection. By the end of class, the student will have created a basic HMI/MMI that incorporates the vast array of powerful tools that RSView32 offers.

Course Objectives:
After completing this course, the student should be able to: Define ODBC, OLE, COM and DDE Setup communication with a processor using RSLinx Correctly use graphic drawing tools and add various controls to them Configure string and numeric displays and input fields Understand the logging options for Activity Logging, Alarm Logging and Data Logging Interact with other Rockwell Software programs as well as those from third parties Use Recipes, Placeholders, Trends and Macros Understand and use RSView32 Commands and the Command Wizard Build and edit a tag database manually by importing tags and using the Other Database feature

Who should attend:

This course is intended for plant engineers, control specialists, technicians, and other individuals who need to understand the fundamental concepts of creating highly functional HMI/MMIs and how they can be best configured for use in industrial applications.

Prerequisites:
Students should have experience with the Microsoft Windows 95/98 or Windows NT operating system, especially navigating to find files and folders. Experience with industrial control applications and programmable logic controllers is recommended, but not mandatory. A familiarity with Microsoft Office is also helpful, though not required.
