Unison Scripture
MARK 5:1-20 (NIV)
They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes. 2When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an impure spirit came from the tombs to meet him. 3This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain. 4For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. 5Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones.
1
out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned. Those tending the pigs ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, and the people went out to see what had happened. 15When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. 16Those who had seen it told the people what had happened to the demon-possessed manand told about the pigs as well. 17Then the people began to plead with Jesus to leave their region.
14
When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. 7He shouted at the top of his voice, What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In Gods name dont torture me! 8For Jesus had said to him, Come out of this man, you impure spirit!
6
Then Jesus asked him, What is your name? My name is Legion, he replied, for we are many. 10And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area. 11A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside. 12The demons begged Jesus, Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them. 13He gave them permission, and the impure spirits came
9
As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with him. 19Jesus did not let him, but said, Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you. 20So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.

UNISON SCRIPTURE
Confession of Sins
Almighty and Most Merciful Father, we come before You, acknowledging our sins, our shortcomings, and our breaking of our Covenant with You. Not only have we done things we ought not to have done, said things we ought not to have said, left undone so many things we ought to have done and been silent when we should have witnessed for You. Not only are we guilty of that, O Lord; but we have also closed our eyes and pretended not to see the injustices, the racism and the evil which pervade our everyday lives. We have shut our ears and pretended not to hear the cries for liberation which come from the lips, lives and hearts of the oppressed even our own Black brothers and sisters! Forgive us, O Lord, renew our courage and faith, and keep us ever mindful of Thy great sacrifice. Hear us, we beseech Thee, as we come to You in love and worship giving Your Name the praise forevermore. ****** To All Our Visitors ... To all who mourn and need comforting ... To all who are friendless and want friendship ... To all who are oppressed and need liberation; and to whosoever will come, Trinity opens its doors. Thank you for coming, and may God bless you.

Lenten Meditation
THE UNFOLDING MESSAGE A CREATIVE COMMUNITY
esus often spoke of a kingdom. We read of the Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Heaven. As his message unfolds, we discover that the kingdom involves a community. The gospels show Jesus as constantly surrounded by a group of people. This is not a happenstance. The story of creation has God saying, It is not good that the man should be alone, so God gave him a helper. (Gen. 2:18) When Jesus began his ministry, very quickly he gathered together twelve men to work with him. These disciples represented by the beginning and the goal of Jesus mission.
In these early days of Lent, when we seek to become better people and more faithful followers of Jesus, it is good to remember what calls us to such action. Made in Gods image, we are people, who long to build a creative life for ourselves and for our world. Like the disciples, we have everyday tasks to do. Our fishing or other work contributes to our common life economically. Yet, we long to be creative in other ways, the life of the spirit and the warmth of human community. It is not enough to keep body and soul together. Our souls long for more. The disciples certainly had heard of Jesus before he spoke the words. Come, follow me! They must have felt the urgency to make their lives richer and more meaningful. Was Jesus subtly saying, Come, help me create now the kind of life that God wants and the prophets called for? Jesus was ready to show them what such a kingdom (or society) would be like. He was ready to live it out himself and teach them how to do so. The disciples, and we, are called to see Jesus vision for us. We are called to be learners. We are called to be healers. We are called to be co-creators of a new spirit of oneness. Join the community! Walk the walk, even though you know that some will oppose you! Jesus calls each of us to be partners in creating a new kind of life.

Fasting
Fasting for the Lenten Season
This year, God has called us to Raise Leaders and Develop Disciples. I am calling a church-wide fast this Lenten season. Fasting is a spiritual discipline designed to deepen our relationship with Jesus Christ. We do not fast to lose weight; we fast to be empowered by Jesus Christ. This year 2013, God will reveal Gods purpose and plan in your life if you dare fast, pray, study and learn the power of quiet time. Jesus had to steal away from the crowd and spend time with his Father in the mountains, to pray, study, reflect, meditate and center his spirit. If fasting and prayer were the disciplines of Jesus, should not this be followed by us? Join with us this season and witness a breakthrough as we fast, pray, study, reflect, meditate and learn the power of quiet time. Question: I have never fasted before? Answer: Consult your doctor first!* Fasting is not the removal of all food from your diet. Fasting is learning to discipline your mind, body and spirit to remove something you know hinders your ability to function at your highest capacity, from your life or diet. Question: Is fasting biblical? Answer: Fasting is biblical. Throughout the Old and New Testaments, fasting was used by the people of God to prepare for a spiritual challenge, hear Gods voice before making a major decision, and for removing destructive forces in your life. Fast #1 - Fasting to confront destructive forces February 13 February 19 Eat all your meals before 6:00 p.m. February 20 February 26 Eat only two meals before 6:00 p.m. February 27 March 5 - Eat only one meal a day March 6 March 12 Drink only juices, water and/or tea March 13 March 19 Eat only fruits and vegetables before 6:00 p.m. March 20 March 31 Slowly begin to add meat to your diet Fast #2 The Daniel Fast (Taken from the book of Daniel). When Daniel was captured by the Babylonians, he asked of the Babylonians if he, along with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, could fast eating only fruits and vegetables so they would be prepared to confront the Babylonian king. February 13 February 19 Eat all meals before 6:00 p.m. February 20 February 26 Eat only two meals a day before 6:00 p.m. February 27 March 5 Eat only fruits and vegetables before 6:00 p.m. March 6 March 12 Eat one meal a day before 6:00 p.m., meat may be added. March 13 March 19 Eat two meals a day before 6:00 p.m., meat may be added March 20 March 31 Eat three meals a day before 6:00 p.m. Fast #3 - Removing certain foods or items from your diet or life. One type of fasting is to remove certain foods from your diet, such as fried foods, sweets, sodas or refined sugar and/or flour.
*Please seek the advice of your primary care provider/ doctor before beginning a fast that involves restricting food/calories and/or medication. Your doctor can help you design a fasting plan that protects your health and well-being. This is extremely important if you are pregnant or have a medical condition. Medical condition examples include, but are not limited to those who have a chronic disease such as diabetes, HIV/AIDS, hypertension, heart disease, cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, recent surgery, etc.
