Name Pantoprazole Protonix 40 mg IV

Indications Erosive esophagitis associated with GERD. Decrease relapse rate of the daytime, nighttime, heartburn symptoms on patients with GERD -indicated in adults and pediatric patients five years of age and older for the short-term treatment (up to 8 weeks) in the healing and symptomatic relief of erosive esophagitis. For those adult patients who have not healed after 8 weeks of treatment, an additional 8-week course of PROTONIX may be considered. Safety of treatment beyond 8 weeks in pediatric patients has not been established.

Side Effects CNS: Headache, dizziness, asthenia, vertigo, insomnia, apathy, anxiety, paresthesias, dream abnormalities Dermatologic: Rash, inflammation, urticaria, pruritus, alopecia, dry skin GI: Diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, constipation, dry mouth, tongue atrophy Respiratory: URI symptoms, cough, epistaxis Other: Cancer in preclinical studies, back pain, fever

Cotraindications contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity reactions including anaphylaxis to the formulation.

Nursing Consideration Monitor for and immediately report S&S of angioedema or a severe skin reaction. Lab tests: Urea breath test 46 wks after completion of therapy.

Idications Adjunctive treatment to decrease the number of adenomatous colorectal polyps in familial adenomatous polyposis

Contraindications Hypersensitivity to drug, sulfonamides, or other NSAIDs Severe hepatic impairment History of asthma or urticaria Advanced renal disease Late pregnancy Breastfeeding

Nursing Considerations During:Instruct patient to take drug with food or milk.- Teach patient to avoid aspirin and other NSAIDs (such as ibuprofen and naproxen)during therapy. After: -Advise patient to immediately report bloody stools, blood in vomit, or signs or symptoms of liver damage(nausea, fatigue, lethargy, pruritus, yellowing of eyes or skin, tenderness on upper right side of abdomen, or flulike symptoms).

Side effects CNS: Sedation. Clamminess, sweating headache, nervousness, restlessness,depression, crying, confusion, faintness, hostility, unusual dreams, hallucinations,euphoria, dysphoria, unreality, dizziness, vertigo, floating feeling, feeling of heaviness,numbness, tingling, flushing, warmth, blurred vision. CV: Hypotension, Hypertension, bradycardia, tachycardia DERMATOLOGIC: Itching, burning, urticaria GI: Nausea, vomiting, cramps, dyspepsia, bitter taste, dry mouth GU: Urinary urgency RESPIRATORY: Respiratory depression, dyspnea, asthma

Contraindications -hypersensitivity to nalbuphine, sulfites; lactation. Use cautiously with emotionally unstable clients or those with a history of narcotic abuse; pregnancy prior to labor, labor or delivery, bronchialasthma, COPD, respiratory depression, anoxia, increased intracranialpressure, acute MI when nausea and vomiting are present, biliary tractsurgery

-Symptomatic relief of Narcotic agonistperennial and seasonal antagonist allergic rhinitis, analgesic vasomotor rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis; mild, uncomplicated urticaria andangioedema; amelioration of allergic reactions to blood or plasma;dermatographism, adjunctive theraphy. Treatment and prevention of motion sickness; prevention and control of nausea and vomiting associated with anesthesia and surgery.

Nursing Considerations -Safe use during pregnancy (except for delivery) and lactation not established. Use with caution in presence of head injuries and asthma, MI (if client is nauseous or vomiting), biliary tract surgery (may induce spasms of sphincter of Oddi), renal insufficiency. Clients dependent on narcotics may experience withdrawal symptoms.
