A Great Beginning Josh Mantey

Wow, the time is upon us. A new NHL season has started, and with a new NHL season, comes new NHL hockey pools. This year, my good friend Jaryn Friesen and myself got together on January 19, 2013 to watch the season opener between the Penguins, and the Flyers. Jaryn came up with an idea to do a hockey pool, just between our friends, and anyone that was over at my place that day. So, before the game, myself, Jaryn, Cody Klassen, Garrett Mantey, Nic Plett, and Dylan Fehr gathered around the dining room table, and did our inaugural seasonal draft. Once we finished selecting our players, we chose team names, made a Facebook page, and immediately started trading. Our trade deadline is this Friday, March 1. We named our hockey pool the Steinbach Fantasy League, or the SFL. We currently have 6 teams for this season, and are hoping to expand next season with another couple of teams. These newsletters are going to feature pictures/memes, interviews, rants, articles, and the team stats/standings. (Note: interviews aren't going to be 100% accurate). Here are the original six teams for our great league. Jaryn Friesen Grey Owls. Cody Klassen Kangaroos. Nic Plett Sniping Swedes. Josh Mantey Cyclones. Garrett Mantey Zombies. Dylan Fehr Fehr Players. Thanks for reading, sincerely, your commissioner, Josh Mantey.

Bringing you the new and interviews that matter in the Steinbach Fantasy League Issue 1 Season 1 February 28, 2013

On February 27th, 2013, the SFL media team sat down with the captain of the Kangaroos, Joe Thornton. Although they are sitting in the basement of the league, they have not lost any optimism as they continue to believe in themselves, and are confident that they can salvage their season. SFL: Hello Joe, we would like to welcome you to the show. Tell us about your season up to this point. What are the thoughts going on in the dressing room? Joe: Its been disappointing. I mean, nobody likes being in last place. We have had a few injuries which has definitely stalled things. Hartsy missed 16 games, Whitney missed a few, along with White, and so it has been tough to get the ball rolling. Unfortunately we will miss Whitneys leadership and knowledge, but we are more than happy to welcome a young star like Damien Brunner to our lineup. He will add a lot of fire power. But as players get back to full health, we all know we are capable of turning this around. SFL: Talk about the injury to your teams oldest player in Ray Whitney, and what it means to your club Joe: Ray Whitney is an incredible player, and we all have nothing but respect for the guy, but like I said earlier, he unfortunately went down with an injury, and none of us are sure when he is set to return. We send him our best wishes, and we hope for a speedy recovery. SFL: With such a big detriment to your roster, do you think your owner (Cody Klassen) made the right move in bringing in a young player like he did? Joe: Damien Brunner is a sensational player and will be a threat in this league for years to come. Do we miss Whitney and everything he brings to the table? Of course we do, but we know that Brunner will do great here. It is good to have some fresh legs out on the ice with us. SFL: Just a quick question to end it off Have you given Damien Brunner any nicknames yet? Joe: Couts actually knows him a bit from junior hockey, and so he has been referring to his junior player name, which is Swiss cheese. Apparently the kid likes cheese. SFL: I think it works. Thanks a lot joining us today, and we wish you the best of luck for the rest of the season Joe: Thanks a lot guys, it's been a pleasure.
