Computer Networks Simulation Using OPNET Modeler

University of Tehran, ECE Department Programming Project Computer Networks Course Spring 2007 Due-Date: TBA

Goal: During this project, we are going to simulate some networking scenarios studied during the course, using OPNET Modeler tool. Prerequisites: Download OPNET IT GURU Academic Edition (which is free edition of OPNET Modeler for Academic purposes) from https://enterprise37.opnet.com/4dcgi/SIGNUP_NewUserOther and install it. Description: For the first part of this project, different wonderful simulation scenarios are chosen for you to get familiar with OPNET. You dont need to provide us with any reports or files for these simulations. By the way you need to know every detail of these laboratories because you will be questioned about them in your exams. For the second part, you need to choose an appropriate simulation topic yourself. The topic you choose may be the simulation of a medium size real network (for example Daneshkade-Fannis network, or just ECE department if you really model every detail) or investigation of a networking theory (for example impacts of different routing protocols traffic on the efficiency of the network). Please note that you should announce your topic to the TAs before starting your project (the due-date for this will be announced). After your topic is accepted, you should go ahead and perform the simulation. You need to provide us with your OPNET project files, a well-formatted report showing details of the work you have done. The format of your report should be like ospf.pdf laboratory. You should be able to explain both parts of your project in detail and perform the experiments individually when demonstrating the project to your TA. In the demonstration session, we will ask you to simulate a scenario to investigate a network theory or model a real network. You should be familiar with all OPNET features you have seen in the labs. Notices: This project must be done in two-member groups, no more and no less. Your project should be emailed to the address utcomputernetworks@gmail.com before the deadline. You need to provide us with a hard copy of your report too. Project demonstration date will be announced and you cannot demonstrate in any other time. If youve got any further questions about the project, you can post it to the course Yahoo! group. Good luck. Hamid Hajabdolali Amir Moghimi Erfan Azarkhish Sadjad Arshad Sepandar Sepehr
