REQUEST FOR PROMOTIONAL MATERIAL FOR THE AFRICAN FAIR 2013, 30 MAY 2 JUNE, PACIFICO YOKOHAMA, HALL C, JAPAN

N Despite the recent slowdown of the Japanese economy, it remains a major economic power. It is ranked as the 4th largest economy in the world in purchasing power parity terms after the US, China and India in 2012. The country also boasts one of the world's largest markets, given its large and wealthy population of 126m and consumers who demand high quality. Japan is South Africas 3rd largest export destination and is regarded as a traditional trading partner. Almost 6% of South Africas total exports to the world are to Japan. However the majority of South African exports to Japan are not value-added and the dti is currently embarking on activities to promote value- added South African exports to Japan. The sophisticated Japanese consumer is a target for South African exporters offering unique luxury products. About the African fair 2013 The African Fair 2013 will take place during the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) V Summit to be held in Yokohama in June 2013. The 2nd African Fair (once every 5 years) is the biggest business event related to Africa in Japan and is an opportunity not to be missed. It aims to promote African exports to Japan by exhibiting African products and also encourage bilateral business interaction between Africa and Japan. Products to be displayed include food, beverages, handicrafts, textiles, leatherworks and other items (all items subject to verification of Japanese import regulations). South Africas theme will be to showcase luxury items and create awareness in Japan of the value-added luxury items available from South Africa.

Application process As space is extremely limited, (36 sqm including meeting rooms), it is requested that companies interested in profiling their products/services and potential investment projects, kindly acknowledge their interest and queries to SMotan@thedti.gov.za and MGMandiwana@thedti.gov.za by 11 March 2013. It is requested that brochures/project proposals and samples of your products be set aside for collection from the dti appointed freight forwarder on 25 March 2013 (subject to confirmation of collection dates). The brochure should include price lists in US$, contact information, and preferably translations in Japanese. Graphics may also be requested to profile the stand.

Approximately 100 brochures/project proposals would be required, and samples sufficient for 4 days are required. The dti will cover the costs for the freighting of the promotional material. The limited space would not permit representatives of companies to be present; however the dti Economic Office in Japan undertakes to disseminate all enquiries arising out of the event.
