In the way of Management, Life is a Beautiful Experience

The Man who graduates today, and stops learning tomorrow is uneducated the day after. We are living in the advance science and technology. Nobody can deny the significance & the sweep of mans technological achievements. Scientific knowledge is power, there is doubt about it. But, today I would like to draw your attention to the power and significance of thought in human life & especially to the youth generation. Hence, say that a producer may produce certain thinks for good purposes. But, they maybe used by the user for bad purpose. My question is thatHas science & technology any answer to this human problem? The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be ignited. Thought itself is a great force. Normally, our life is stereotyped. It is dominated by prejudices and preconceptions. I mean we see the world from our own standpoints. We transmute new thoughts to make them suitable to our framework of thinking. Vertical thinking is digging the same hole deeper. Lateral thinking is trying again elsewhere. Man must rise above self-love or self-interest and can selflessly do the divine work of human upliftment or improvement. Nietzche, the great German philosopher has said that-will to power is the only drive of human actions. Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere. Up to the certain age, say.40 to 50 years, we simply go on indulging in material pleasure. Im not against of these kinds of pleasures They have also a place in our life, but there are pleasures higher than these. For instance, there is emotional joy, intellectual happiness and eternal bliss. All of us will reflect in different. If material pleasures only become the aim of human life, then, how does it differ from animal life? Marx said: The less you are the more you have. It is now a well-established truth that man does not live by bread alone. Material things are esse4ntial in human life but something else is also needed. Today man does not want to live on somebodys mercy. Which philosophy of life can make man stand erect? I think, philosophy of Vyas, the great epic writer of Mahabharata 2/26/2013 1

stands unique in this regard. In same, Shakespeare had depicted only those characters who were slaves of circumstances & victims of fate. The way defining the events of Renaissance & Reformation. On the contrary, Vyas has not failed even to discuss Charwak the hedonist. He had discussed both the dark & the bright sides of life.

Kabhi khushi ki Aasha, kabhi Gam ki Nirasha Kabhi khushio ki dhoop, kabhi hakiqatt ki chhaya Kuchh kho kar ku6 pane ki Aasha, Yahi he Zindgi ki paribhasha.

RIGHT TO EDUCATION AND RIGHT EDUCATION

On the first day of April 2010, over a billion Indians woke up in an India that had become nobler than ever before. From that day, the Right to Education Act had come into force. Children of India, between the ages of 6 and 14, now possess the fundamental right to Education. Why is this Act so important? An uneducated person is always at a disadvantage. No matter how much natural ability one may have, if a person is uneducated, he is a discounted person. It is only a combination of ability plus education which can propel a person upwards, away from mediocrity and limitations. The children from the homes of the poor, deprived and destitute, now have hope, born out of this guarantee. What about all those who have missed this opportunity? There are amongst us millions who have not acquired at least basic education. They might regret it but still feel that it is too late to begin. What should such people do? They must make a resolution, strong, vigorous and determined one, that they are going to be educated men and women; that they are no longer going to go through life humiliated by ignorance; that though they have been deprived of early advantages, they are going to make up their loss. Man has been created for growth. It is the object, the explanation, of his being. To have an ambition to grow larger and broader every day, to push the horizon of ignorance a little far away, to become a little richer in knowledge, a little wider and more of a man that is ambition worthwhile. It is normally expected or understood that an education should be crowded into a few years of school life. The best educated people are those who are always learning, always absorbing knowledge from every possible source and at every opportunity.

The world is a great university. From the moment we draw our first breath at birth till we draw last one we are always at Gods courtyard where everything is trying to teach us its lesson, to give us its great secret. Some people are always at school of nature, always storing us precious bits of knowledge. Everything has a lesson for them. It all depends upon the eyes that can see and the mind that can appreciate. If we go through life with inquisitiveness, holding an alert inquiring mind towards everything, we can acquire great material wealth and more importantly, wisdom which is beyond all material wealth. The habit of absorbing information of all kinds from others is of priceless value. The weakness and ineffectiveness of a person is in direct proportion to the extent he keeps himself or herself away from fellow beings. There is a constant stream of power, a current of forces running to and fro between individuals who came in contact with one another, if they have inquiring minds. We are all giving and accepting perpetually when we associate together. The achiever of today must keep in touch with the society around him; he must put his finger on the pulse of the great busy world and feel its throbbing life. He must be a part of it as otherwise he would find something vital lacking from his life. A person could have gone through years of study and training during the time he or she has spent in school and college. Yet throughout this period he or she could have only gathered large quantity of information. A dictionary contains between its two covers all the words in the English Language. That does not make it any wiser. One has to strive and convert information into knowledge and knowledge into wisdom. Wisdom however does not open its doors to those who are not willing to pay the price in the form of self-sacrifice and in the form of hard work. Its jewels are too precious to scatter before the idle and the ambitionless. The Right to Education is an opportunity. The Right Education, however, is essential.

Bill Gates Secret to Success: Cheating

The NYT had a brief assessment of Bill Gates career in building up Microsoft as he prepared to leave his position with the company. The article mentions the anti-competitive practices that caused it to lose an antitrust suit in connection with its Internet browser. However, it did not discuss the earlier practices that helped give Microsoft near monopoly status in the operating system market. In the late 80s, Microsoft signed contracts with several major computer manufacturers under which they got a discount price, but agreed to pay Microsoft for every computer they shipped, whether or not it included the Microsoft operating system. This meant that the marginal cost of including the Microsoft system was essentially zero, since the manufacturer had already paid for the system, even if she decided not to use it. The result was discouraging the use of any other operating system. This could have prevented an erosion of market share that could have resulted if other software companies sought out niche markets. Microsoft was investigated for these contracts by the Justice Department and in 1993 signed a consent decree in which it agreed to not write any more of these contracts (after Microsoft had already captured 90 percent of the operating system market). It would have been worth mentioning this background in this piece. Gates benefited enormously from the willingness of the government to ignore violations of anti-trust law during his rein at Microsoft. If he had tried the same business practices at other times, he might be going to prison rather retirement

A DAY MORE TO LIVE

The one last thing I would like to do, Is to sit right next to you and run back the time. Just enough to watch the sunshine, Give me that chance To have my mothers glanced; Take me to my school again To see that mud and rain, Bring me my favorite dress, Save all those flowers that I pressed, Let us take a walk in the next-door lane For tomorrow this time would not sustain Send a message to my friend far away That all those promises I did obey, Tell my teacher that I still remember her Cannot walk to her as I have a rush here. If you ever found my hidden diary Do not read! Give it to my Daddy, If you can bring my doll to me And my ideal book like whom I wanted to be, Take a pen and write down my words Before my eyes get blurred, Tell God to bless me as I wish and pray, And Gift me just One More Day.

LINES ON COLLEGE DAYS.

Remembering my classmates, after few years, My eyes were filled with tears, Everyone is busy a lot, No one escaped destiny's plot, Saw the girl, whom once I thought as my best friend, Oops! Today she is some body else's girl friend, After months remembered about her for a little while, Heard she is happy, that made me smile, Project reviews to campus interviews, Nicknames to last bench games, Cultural rehearsals to love proposals, Short term crushes to classroom blushes, Everything is fresh in our mind, Wish life could just rewind, Lets laugh, play and rejoice, Once again become college guys, Chatting and laughing. We all were in elation, Till the painful moment of separation, When it was time to part, We returned with a heavy heart, Today life is full of commitments, And too many worries, But those cherished moments, will leave forever in our memories. We must accept finite disappointment, but we must never lose infinite hope. Martin Luther King, Jr The picture above suggests us that we should never lose hope in life in any situation. Both the persons are digging a hole to get the diamonds. The 1st person is digging a hole to get the diamonds. Though it needs a lot of effort without losing any hope he continues digging it. The 2nd person has almost reached the target but as he loses hope he does not get the diamonds. Sagar Barasiya Charmaine Dsouza Section-A

LEADERSHIP

Youth get-up and-go

How do we define a true leader in todays corporate setup? We believe a true leader inspires and engages other employees to work cohesively towards achieving success in the company. A true leader should be innovative, engaging strategic and should work to attract, retain and develop the best talent in the organization. Leadership is something wherein you bring in tomorrows vision, today. With the rise of employees who can work virtually and from any location-for any locations, leaders will have to drive integrity, high levels of openness and sincerity to ensure productivity and high performance leader will have to recognize and harness the productivity and creativity of employees. Future leaders will need to be agile, culturally sensitive, and collaborative to manage the global. Leadership behavior is defined in two parts attitude and values from one part. Capability and competence from another part. The first part is inherent. So it is necessary that while identifying future leaders, emphasis should be high on values and attitude. Capability and competencies can be developed and this is where the organization, leadership and performance development plans have a role to play. The organization focus on individuals who possess qualities that will help in identifying managers. He/She must be flexible in thinking; should be receptive to the ideas of others and should be good in networking and managing relationships. High- potential leaders must be mentored by a high performing individual/leader.

Time Management Personality Types

Are You Sabotaging Your Time Management Efforts?

The key to time management knows ourselves, as we can't actually "manage" time; all we can manage is our own behavior. For many of us this is more than enough of a challenge. While we claim that effective time management is a top priority and that we just have to get more organized, our actions don't match our stated desires. I've invented these time management personality "types" to describe patterns of behavior that sabotage many people's attempts at time management. Which of the following time management "types" are you? While intended as fun, this time management exercise may provide you with some clues for more effective time management. The Fireman - For you, every event is a crisis. You're so busy putting out fires that you have no time to deal with anything else - especially the boring, mundane things such as time management. Tasks pile up around you while you rush from fire to fire all day. Typically seen - Running to car. The Over-Committer - Your problem is you can't say 'No'. All anyone has to do is ask, and you'll chair another committee, take on another project, or organize yet another community event. You're so busy you don't even have time to write down all the things you do! 2/26/2013 10

Typically seen - Hiding in rest room. The Aquarian - There is such as thing as being too "laid-back" - especially when it starts interfering with your ability to finish tasks or bother to return phone calls. Getting to things when you get to them isn't time management; it's simple task avoidance.

Typically seen - Hanging out with feet on desk. The Chatty Kathy - Born to socialize, you have astounding oral communication skills and can't resist exercising them at every opportunity. Every interaction becomes a long drawn out conversation - especially if there's an unpleasant task dawning that you'd like to put off. Typically seen - Talking on cell phone. The Perfectionist - You have a compulsion to cross all the "t's" and dot all the "i's", preferably with elaborate whorls and curlicues. Exactitude is your watchword, and you feel that no rushed job can be a good job. Finishing tasks to your satisfaction is such a problem you need more time zones, not just more time. Typically seen - Hunched over latest project. Hopefully none of these time management personality profiles is a photograph of you! But perhaps these descriptions will provoke some thought about the different ways we manage or mismanage time, and some clues about how we might change our behaviors to make our time management efforts more successful.

REAL UNDERSTANDING OF MANAGEMANT

If we want to understand about management we have definition like, Management is an art of getting things done through others But, is this definition enough to understand about management answer would be no. In our childhood, our elder, parents thought story of horse ands donkey and also said that my child, you have to become like a horse not like a donkey but at that time we seriously didnt understand the meaning of that story because donkey do more hard work than horse. But do you know real difference between horse and donkey. There is only one difference between them and that is smart work. Horse does less hard work but utilizing all resources. (I.e. doing smart work than donkey) So my friends, management is just about smart work not about hard work management is only about utilizing resources at minimum efforts.

Corporate Brand Logo Evolution

1. Apple

It is one of the biggest consumer electronics and Software Company, best known for products like Macintosh, iPod and iphone. Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne had together setup Apple in 1976, to sell their hand-built computer Apple I. They had offered their product to HP first but were declined by them. I think HP would still be regretting this today. The road to success wasnt easy for Apple, and Wayne liquidated his share in the company for a mere $ 800. After the launch of Apple II in 1977, things started to look up for Apple and we all know what heights the company has reached since then. Apple II was successful mainly because it had colored graphics. Great and simple design, has always been the USP (Unique Selling Proposition) for Apple, and their logo is no exception. When Apple was started, the logo was a complicated picture of Isaac Newton sitting under a tree. This had been designed by Jobs and Wayne,

with the inscription: Newton A Mind Forever Voyaging Through Strange Seas of Thought Alone. Frankly, I dont think it was just a coincidence that Apple had slow sales during this period. However, Steve Jobs hired Rob Janoff to simplify the logo, which turned out to be a great idea. Rob created the Rainbow Apple which was the logo for company till 1998. There are many rumors as to why Rob had chosen to create such a logo. One of them says that the Apple was a tribute to Newton (discovery of gravity from an Apple), and since the USP for Apple at that time was colored graphics, it had the rainbow colors. Another explanation exists that the bitten apple pays homage to the Mathematician Alan Turing, who committed suicide by eating an apple he had laced with cyanide. Turing is regarded as the father of computers. The rainbow colors of the logo are rumored to be a reference to the rainbow flag, as homage to Turings homosexuality.

Janoff, however, said in an interview that though he was mindful of the byte/bite pun (Apples slogan back then: Byte into an Apple), he designed the logo as such to prevent the apple from looking like a cherry tomato. When Apple launched the new iMac in 1998, they changed their logo to a monochromatic apple logo, almost identical to the rainbow logo. Now, the Apple logo comes with nice gradient chrome silver design. It is one of the most recognized brand symbols in the world today, and the shape is what identifies the company more than the color.

02. Shell

Back in 1900, when the company was started the logo was a realistic and simple shell which lies flat on the ground. This was a pectin or scallop shell, but today the company has a logo which is bold, colorful and much more simplistic.

2/26/2013

14

The evolution of the logo began after 1915, when rendering enabled the company to reproduce its identity easily. This is visible in the 1930 logo for the company. When the company started a project in California, it added the red and yellow colors to the symbol. The colors help Shell to stand out. Additionally, these are the colors of Spain, where many Californian settlers were born, which might have helped the company to create an emotional bond with the people. With the advent of internet and fax machines over the later years, it became necessary for the company to simplify their logo, which would prevent it from being distorted in small images. The 1971 logo designed by Raymond Loewy is very simple as compared to the earlier logos. This has helped the company because this logo is more memorable and recognizable, accountable to the simplicity of the logo. The 1971 logo is still used by the company albeit with minor changes, but it has become so recognizable that it often appears without the company name now.

03. Xerox

The Xerox Company used to be known as the Haloid Company almost 100 years ago. But in 1938, Chester Carlson invented a technique called xerography which we today call the photocopy technique. Unfortunately no one was willing to invest in his invention, and many big giants like IBM, GE, RCA and others decided not to finance this invention. But Haloid Company decided to go with Chester and made the first photocopying machine named Haloid Xerox 14. As can be seen in their logos, the original Haloid word which was prominent in the companys logo before 1961 was completely replaced by Xerox due to the immense success of this idea. They retained almost the same logo from 1961 to 2004. But in 2004 there was a problem with the Xerox books and it tried to reinvent itself with a new logo. People associate the company only with photocopy machines, and that has been a major problem for Xerox.

2/26/2013

15

The company changed its logo in 2008 to get away from this stereotyped image, by changing the font of the word. They also added a ball which has a stylish X instead of their boring X in earlier times According to Anne M. Mulcahy, Xeroxs chief, that little piece of art represents the connection to customers, partners, industry and innovation. Official Link

04. BMW

BMW or Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (Bavarian Motor Works) was originally founded as an aircraft company. The aircrafts manufactured were painted with the colors of the Bavarian flag, which is the color of BMW logo. Another explanation is that when the pilot used to sit in the plane he would see alternating segments of white and blue due to rotation the plane propeller (blue being the sky). The major business of BMW was to supply planes to the German army during World War I. But after the war they were forced to change their business. It made railway brakes, before making motorized bicycle, motorcycles and cars. The logo itself hasnt changed a lot during the years, but now has a more stylish look due to the different gradients. The unchanged logo has made it easier for people to remember and has given the company more recognition. Official Link

05. Nike

2/26/2013

16

Nike probably got the best deal amongst all companies when Caroline Davidson designed its logo for just $35 in 1971. The main part of the logo hasnt really changed with time. However, I dont understand why they waited for 7 years before they realized that the text and the swoosh were overlapping each other. As the brand gained recognition, the company name was dropped from the logo, which made it more simplistic and memorable. The company has different variations of this logo for its various departments like Skate, Soccer etc. Official Link
