applying, please check “Apply to all users” check box.

Page 11
Net Control 2 User Guide. Tools and Features

By default “Allowed Programs” profile will be in effect until restart of user

computer. If the profile should remain active after restart of user computer,
before sending the profile, please check “Autoload at startup” check box.

Internet Access profiles.

Default installation of Net Control 2 includes the following profiles and

examples:
Disable Internet Access – forbids access to Internet services.
Enable Full Access – removes all Internet restrictions and enables full access
Disable www.mydomain.com site – an example, which disables access to
www.mydomain.com web-site.
Enable www.mydomain.com web-site only – en example, enables access
to www.mydomain.com web-site only.
Internet Access Only – enables access to Internet services only. This profile
works only when Internet Control Engine is installed in “Protocol Layer” mode
(details please see below).
Internet Access with Adult content filtering only – visited web-sites will
be checked for “adult” content, and forbidden content will be blocked.

Page 12
Net Control 2 User Guide. Tools and Features

Internet Control Engine: two modes (“Protocol Layer” and “Internet

Explorer plug-in”)

Internet Control Engine may be installed as “Internet Explorer plug-in” or

“Protocol layer”. First mode is used by default.

Internet Explorer plug-in mode provides better compatibility with network

configurations, drivers and software, provides several special features: custom
“Access denied” page, which displayed, when access to web-site is blocked,
web-site filtering by domain name mask etc. But in this case, restrictions will
be effective in Internet Explorer browser only.

Protocol Layer mode provides effective access restriction in all programs,

including alternative browsers, like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera etc.
Allows blocking network services by their port number (includes elements of
Firewall protection). But in several cases may conflict with third-party software,
several antiviruses, which ses the same technique of Internet access control.

The mode of Control Engine may be changed through Net Control 2 User
configuration dialog:
– select user computers;
– click menu command → Options → Remote Computer Options;
– set up all necessary settings (settings are reset to defaults);

Page 13

Internet Access profile consists in rules, which may be added, deleted or

modified. Currently Net Control 2 supports the following rules:
Disable World-Wide-Web – (Internet Explorer Plug-in mode only) – forbid
access to all Internet services.

Block Web-site – blocks a web-site, by its domain name. Please note,

http://www.domain.name, http://domain.name, http://forum.domain.name –
are different web-sites, to forbid access to all these web-sites, please use
mask: *domain.name
Enable Web-site – enables access to web-site. As previously described,
please take into account subdomain names.

Please note! The profile cannot include both “blocked” and “enabled”
web-sites. Only last verb - “enable” or “disable” will be applied to all
specified web-sites.

Disable web-site, containing keyword or a sentence – enables content

filtering on visited web-sites. Will verify incoming information on presence of
forbidden keywords, if any keyword will be found, an access to web-site will be
automatically blocked.

Disable adult content – enables “adult” content filtering. Includes specific

keywords for “adult” content.

“Protocol Layer” mode rules. Are not effective in default “Internet Explorer
plugin” mode:
Disable all network services – effective in “Protocol Layer” mode only.
Disables all not specified in the profile ports/services.

Enable service or network port – effective in “Protocol Layer” mode only.

Enables access to specified service or network port. Should be used together
with “Disable all network services” rule.

Disable service or network port – effective in “Protocol Layer” mode only.

Disable access to specified service or network port.

Enable content filtering for network service – effective in “Protocol

Layer” mode only. Enables content filtering for incoming data of specified
service.

Enable content filtering for all network services – effective in “Protocol

Layer” mode only. Enables content filtering on all network services.

Policies

Understanding “Policies”.

Policies are hidden system settings, which enables or restricts access to

system settings or services. Policies are managed by Windows internally, they
are depends on version of operating system and generally requires restart of
computer or Explorer shell to be applied. By default Windows applies Policies to
currently logged on user only. Windows and its components uses more than
2000 different policies, Net Control 2 implements only most popular.

Default profiles:

Disable Uninstall Tools – example: disables access to “Add/Remove

programs” applet of Control Panel.
Guest mode – disables access to most sensitive system settings and folders.
Master mode – disable all restrictions. Enables normal access to system
settings and folders.

By default, sent profile will be applied to currently logged on user only. If the
profile should be applied to all users, before sending, please check “Apply to
all users” check box.

Many policies require restart of Windows Shell (Explorer) to be applied.

Tip! In many cases, profile may be activated immediately without restart of
