Kittitas Valley Community Hospital

Scope of Services

Summary: Kittitas Valley Community Hospital is operated by Public Hospital District No. 1,
Kittitas County. The District was established in 1964 and is governed by a five-member elected
Board of Commissioners. Described below are services directly provided or owned by the
hospital.

I. Direct Patient Care Services

Acute Care
• Medical/Surgical and Swing Beds, 13 beds including five swing beds and three
airborne isolation
• Critical Care: Four hardwire and two telemetry beds

Hospitalists
• Three Internal Medicine Hospitalists, supplemented by practicing Internists
and Family Medicine practitioners
• 24/7 coverage for adult non-obstetric inpatient hospital admissions
• Coverage for local clinics and unassigned patients.

Surgical Services (Inpatient and Outpatient)


• Facility: Three Operating Rooms, four Post-Anesthesia Recovery (PAR) stations,
12 Surgical Outpatient/Medical Outpatient rooms, two endoscopy rooms
• Inpatient and outpatient orthopedic, obstetrical, gynecological, general,
otolaryngological, dental, and ophthalmological surgery including laparoscopy
and arthroscopy
• Urgent and emergent C-sections, general surgery and trauma surgery
• Medical Outpatient procedures include transfusions, injections, epidurals and IV
infusions

Emergency Services
• Facility: Eight rooms with capacity for nine patients
• State designated Level IV Trauma Service
• 24/7 Emergency Department physician coverage

Obstetrical Services
• Family Birthing Center: Set-up beds include four Labor/Delivery/Recovery &
Postpartum rooms (LDRPs) and two post-partum rooms
• Two observation/outpatient beds.
• Dedicated operating room.

Urgent Care Services/Cle Elum


• Facility: Provider-based clinic located in Cle Elum staffed with on-site PA-C or
MD on-call
• Operating hours: 5:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. weekdays
8:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. weekends
Physical Rehabilitation Services
• Services: Inpatient and Outpatient physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech
therapy
• Treat various ages and cognitive abilities for musculoskeletal (including sports
medicine), neurological, post-surgical and trauma rehabilitation needs
• Aqua Therapy services

Respiratory Care Services


• Inpatient and outpatient cardiopulmonary department
• Services: Pulmonary function testing, oxygen therapy, ventilator management,
airway management, stress testing, EKGs, holter monitoring
• 24-hour call coverage

Pharmacy Services
• Pharmacy provides distribution, clinical pharmacy, and investigational drug study
and drug information services to inpatient units of Kittitas Valley Community
Hospital on a 24-hour basis. The Pharmacy Department is staffed 7 days weekly,
365 days a year, from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with a pharmacist on-call after
hours.
• Pharmacists monitor the use of all medications.
• Pharmacy staff mixes all medications given intravenously, consults with the
physicians and dietitians at the hospital in preparing IV nutritional support.
• Pharmacists also prepare written evaluations on new drugs as required by the
Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, and participates in drug-use evaluations.

II. KVCH-Owned Clinics

Kittitas Valley Internal Medicine


• Facility: Provider-based rural health clinic located on KVCH campus
• Staff: two Internal Medicine physicians & one Physician Assistant

Kittitas Valley Orthopedics


• Facility: Orthopedic practice located on KVCH campus
• Staff: one Orthopedic surgeon

Cle Elum Medical Center


• Facility: Provider-based rural health clinic located in Cle Elum. Building leased
from Kittitas County Public Hospital District No. 2
• Staff: four Family Medicine physicians and one Physician Assistant

III. Direct Ancillary and Outreach Services

Imaging Services
• Services: Radiography, CT, Ultrasonography, Echocardiography, Mammography,
Bone Densitometry, and MRI
• On-call technologist coverage 24/7, and teleradiology linkage for 24/7
reading/interpretation by radiologist
Laboratory Services
• Services: Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Blood Bank, Coagulation and
Urinalysis
• On-site staffing 24/7

Kittitas Valley Home Health & Hospice


•Services: Physician-prescribed treatments by registered nurses, social workers,
physical, speech and occupational therapists.
•24-hour, 7-days-a-week, on-call nursing staff and home health aides
• Medication management, teaching and supervision
• Specialized teaching for dietary, cardiac, diabetic, ostomy and wound
management
•Home telehealth monitoring
•Home Respiratory & Home Infusion services
• Hospice Services for patients with a terminal illness
• Hospice Friends: Associated non-profit volunteer service that assists people and
families facing terminal illnesses
• Geriatric Nurse Practitioner services provided on-site in skilled nursing and
assisted living facilities

Community Outreach Services


• Dietary Counseling and Diabetic Education Program
• Cancer Outreach Services
• Pre-natal classes – English and Spanish
• Community Health Library
