Introduction of Rural management

India is a vast country. It is the seventh-largest country in the world, with a total area of 3,287,240 square kilometers. World second number of population with a total of 1,21,01,93,422 living in its boundary. Most of its population rural area. As Per
the 2011 census 70% of the population lives in about 638,000 villages and the remaining 30% lives in more than 5,100 towns and over 380 urban agglomerations. The population density in india is 382 people per sq km. indian rural area is full of resources and consumers till today it is considered as an untapped market with a big amount of opportunity. As India is a

country of villages and farmers. Most of its population lives in villages and rural areas and the rural population is economically backward, it is the duty of educated masses especially the qualified professionals in rural management to assist the villagers in their process of development so that the whole nation could achieve progress and prosperity. So, for all those are deeply concerned about the nations development, a career in rural management can help them fulfill their desire. Rural development has always been the prime focus of our government since independence. All five years plans were focused towards the special benefit of the rural community. Some of the objectives have been achieved and others have failed but the effort for further development has not ceased. One of the most notable examples is the Operation Flood. An operation started by the Dairy Development Board, the concept was high production of milk and dairy products. The scheme was very successful in Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and the production of milk and milk-based products jumped exponentially. Further the products were exported yielding high return of foreign exchange. Yet another breakthrough was the Green Revolution, which coincided with unprecedented crop and vegetable production in the country. Again the northern states took the lead and produced maximum yield and earning for the country. The import of food grains was reduced one-fourth thus saving a lot of money for the country. Today, as India is marching forward to become a developed and prosperous nation in the world, the role of rural managers has become vital to bring about substantial changes in the livelihood of crores of rural poor.

What is Rural Area?


In general, a rural area is a geographic area that is located outside the cities and towns. Rural areas are also known as 'countryside' or a 'village' in India. It has a very low density of population. In rural areas, agriculture is the chief source of livelihood along with fishing, cottage industries, pottery etc. The quest to discover the real rural India still continues in great earnest. Almost every economic agency today has a definition of rural India. Here are a few definitions: According to the Planning Commission, a town with a maximum population of 15,000 is considered rural in nature. In these areas the panchayat takes all the decisions. There are five people in the panchayat. The National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) defines rural as follows: An area with a population density of up to 400 per square kilometer, Villages with clear surveyed boundaries but no municipal board, A minimum of 75% of male working population involved in agriculture and allied activities.

RBI defines rural areas as those areas with a population of less than 49,000 (tier -3 to tier-6 cities). It is generally said that the rural areas house up to 70% of Indias population. Rural India contributes a big chunk to Indias GDP by way of agriculture, self employment, services, construction etc. As per a strict measure used by the National Sample Survey in its 63rd round, called monthly per capita expenditure, rural expenditure accounts for 55% of total national monthly expenditure. The rural population currently accounts for one -third of the total Indian FMCG sales.

Definition of Rural Management


As the definition of management says management is the process of planning organizing leading and controlling of efforts of organization members to achieve a desire goal. In rural area agri business and agri products are the main element to concern so rural management may be speak as

The activity and process of managing the development process in the rural areas.

A discipline dealing with the selection, breeding, and management of crops and domestic animals for more economical production. Rural management is the study of planning, organising, directing, and controlling of cooperatives, agribusiness and allied fields. It merges the knowledge of management studies and applying it in the rural context.
